They've been tinkering with it, and it's just about the next iteration of Wargame Airland Battle / Red Dragon.

No naval units, but that's OK. Its a fantastic war simulator of the cold war that takes great pride to get historical details right, but also balance the gameplay.

Looking forward to the game going to full release with more singleplayer elements added. Solid fun in current state.

Simple, fun and realistic enough. Highly recommend! I got this on sale, but after playing, I'd pay full price.

It's a game where you embrace the chaos. It's like the best organic story creator I've ever seen in a game.

I would recommend this to any sentient being, especially those with cannibalistic tendencies.

Game is fantastic and worth the asking price. I knew about the developers from the game Planetbase and for anyone coming from there, you're going to love the simplicity of the mechanics but I believe they put together something that feels both more challenging yet forgiving.

For a lot of folks who come from Banished, you'll recognize the gritty nature of a city builder / survival game. However, Dawn of Man is able to create challenging and problematic gameplay that doesn't make you want to rage (like losing 400 people in death spiral). In fact, to that point, death is a constant in this game and yet it's not something that dismays me. Perhaps that's not noteworthy for some, but as a proud save scummer who always wants the perfect settlement in any game I'm playing, this game has a casual embrace of failure because while it stings, it doesn't kill you. Additionally, the work you have to do to progress is actually quite fun (like hunting, and being mindful that conservation of the land helps you in the long run). I think this is the kind of 2nd level and 3rd level strategy that I crave for in a strategy game (and again, without being either mind numbing or tedious).

One of the great parts of the game is the constant action and progressive nature of growing your settlement on a massive map. However, this can be a terrible thing for games that don't bear in mind automation and the what seems like inevitable micro managing of every little detail. The kind of frustration that makes you never "finish" a map because you'll just end up going insane - unless you're the pedantic type. The entire reason why growth hasn't killed me (yet, still going here) are the simple mechanics of setting work areas (which could be better if we could set larger areas or perhaps change the shapes of the work areas) and setting resource limits on EVERY resource (based on either number, % of population, or non-stop with a simple right click and toggle). Seems simple, but again, makes growth and later stage development fun without mega micro.

I've only made it to the Copper Age thus far, but I've got to say that they are really onto something here. It's $25 and a small development team put together a quality product: buy it and enjoy. :)

Call to arms is MOW's modern equivalent. Great game, depsite some minor flaws as it still feels a bit unpolished.

Consider this lovechild of Civil War Generals 2 and Ultimate General: Gettysburg. What can go wrong?
