Early Access Review
When the announcement trailer first dropped, I actually got goosebumps. I saw a game that was the true successor to the legendary Kerbal Space Program. Colonies, interstellar travel, new graphics, improved physics engine and better performance. This all was promised in KSP2. I was full of hope.

Then the game actually launched. And it was a broken mess. We barely got what was promised. The only thing that was actually delivered was the graphics. The game looks really good. But other than that, it was deeply unfinished. Even the heating system was missing, which was one of the most crucial features of the first game. KSP2 was just a soulless husk of its predecessor.

But eventually, over time, we managed to get a few patches. They didn’t fix the game by any means, but at least they made the whole experience less painful. Some months ago, we got a big update that added science to the game, and it was actually really nice. I mean, of course this should have been in the game when it launched, but at least we got some evidence that there was work done on the game and the developer just didn’t give up.

So, what happened? The game got released in a very unfinished barebone state. And don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t the fault of the developers. The only culprit in all this is corporate greed. The publishers needed the money already, so they pushed on the developers to finish the game and release it. A story old as time. However, the publishers, probably never even trying out how it is to code a game in their life, thought that this is all fine. Well… no it wasn’t all fine. Actually, quite the opposite. Because of the publishers, the game has been a complete fiasco so far.

And this brings me to my final point. Take-Two, the publishers of the game laid off many people a few days ago, including the developers of KSP2. This is heartbreaking. Seeing a game, with an already messy start, becoming even messier is just sad. There is still hope, as this doesn’t explicitly mean the end of KSP2, but it also doesn’t look so bright either. If you’re thinking about buying this game, don’t. At least not now. The patches so far were promising, but after this entire debacle, the future of the game looks quite grim. Wait some time, at least until the next big patch is released, if it even will be released, that is. But despite all this, I still have hope. This game cannot die. At least not like this.

And most importantly, don’t blame the developers, they seem like they really care about this game. The one who truly should be blamed is Take-Two. Being driven by profit, they really messed up here.
