Putting down negative because the puzzles which was the thing I was mostly interested in were easy to figure out and dumb hard to execute.
it became so bad I couldn't finish the game because it would make my arthritis flare up.

This game is a perfect example of how low expectations in the gaming space has become.

To me it's a game that got high praise mostly for being a triple A game without micro transactions, lootboxes or any of all that other BS that's become the norm with triple A games.

It's a visually pretty, above average triple A game. Horizon released the year earlier does what this game does but better in almost every area.

Pros:
Very pretty both design wise and graphically.
Good voice acting, the only real great/outstanding one was the stanger/Baldurs VA.
Interesting world progression / design.
Lore of the world / pantheon was interesting.

Cons:
  • Item progression that serves no purpose other than pad out game time, just slap on whatever has the highest number on it and you're good. it feels like powerlevel/ lightlevel does in destiny.
  • Enemy variety is sparse it feels like you are fighting the same recolored enemies over and over.
  • World traversal is incredibly tedious if you want to do the side quests at the start of the game, not only don't you have access to quick travel until very late into the game you can only use it from specific spots.
  • The world progresses combined with when you got different powers makes exploration and non main story content feel incredibly slow and tedious. they tried to do a kind of metroidvania kind of system for it but it doesn't work with how slow the game plays and the rewards being nothing more than another piece of currency or stat increase that has no impact on how you play.
  • The camera, it's so close to the character I'm surprised you don't hear Kratos trying to sneak one out from time to time, it makes combat more of confusing and frustrating than it needed to be especially when you end up looking at red arrows more in combat than the actual enemies, seems to defeat the purpose that close up cams have to engage you in the moment.
  • lock-on that's not very useful in 80 to 90% of the game and the few times it is useful half the time either the enemies have some sort of move that is either so fast or goes so far that the lock-on stops locking on.
  • combat feels very shallow and flat, attacks have way longer reach than than they should because they magnet to enemies and you when you attack / are getting attacked. This magnetism also targets creatures that were not in the direction you were attacking at times, kind of similar how the arkham games worked but combined with the camera it plays much worse here.
  • Story is pretty generic and obvious, most plot points you could see from a mile away with very few exceptions.
  • events happen that are not explained explicitly or implicitly
  • weird bipolar arc that doesn't lead anywhere.

It's a good core game with ha lot of small flaws and a tacked on "item progression". it's not something special, not gameplay wise and not narratively. if I could I would put mixed on this, an experience that in all honestly was pretty forgettable.

while you can certainly see the Skyrim origin and those systems holding it back a bit it's still a fantastic game with a good story.

I'd place this high above D2 now, it's grown so much and has become better and better with every patch.
Mad props to Grinding Gear Games.

2 hour game, bit to easy (even without hints on) and a lot of repeated puzzles.
There are also a lot of "put square peg in square hole" kind of parts .
Over all though it's a wellmade game and it kept me busy for 2 hours, I'd recommend it.
