Squad has taken a new direction with its game post ICO.

ICO was meant to be about "rewarding teamwork" and "more engaging firefights". But this update achieves none of that. Blueberries still behave like blueberries always have, firefights are more dominated than ever by rewarding playing that remain stationary (importantly, even slow or methodical approaches are nerfed hard), and the new aggression on the new suppression mechanic result in overpowered vehicles and RNG as the determining factor in most firefights.

Lots of people have slated the comp community within this game, some of it is valid however a lot of it is not. As someone who has consistently played top tier, run tournaments and cast games across multiple years I can say without a shadow of a doubt that there was more communication, team tactics and co-ordinated overlapping fire in those comp games than what this ICO update could bring. It is sad to see that now hollowed out, and in its place we are left with the frankly insane notion that 50 strangers will ever co-ordinate on the internet in a constructive fashion.

Leaning into the elements that made comp games much more rewarding than blueberry pubs games could have resulted in an experience that all sides of the player base would have enjoyed. By increasing player agency, promoting true teamwork and showcasing how exciting teamwork driven squad could be.

Instead we're left with this, a game that will end up appealing to a very small % of people that wish arma 3 had a quickmatch mode, and a waste of potential.
