My story begins a long time ago. I was brought into this world by my two parents…
That’s too far, Let me try again.

During 2018, I was bored and had no money to spend and a end of the run laptop. I was looking for simple free games on my phone. That's when I found a certain game.

Mindustry

At first it was a simple pixelated game with a basic goal of defending against some towers. What was appealing to me at first was the complexity already available to me. I could create a system of automated production to help me go against endless waves of enemies. The game continued to receive support slowly and then I soon discovered tiny servers of people playing as well. One of my favorite pastimes was to play this game on multiplayer learning new build ideas and try to survive as far as I could. I downloaded the game on my phone and showed it to all my friends. Sadly all great stories come to end. After a while I would play less and less. I tried to switch up my games and find new ways to entertain myself. The app stayed on my phone untouched, doing nothing. But then again I became bored. I played again and something spectacular happened.

The update

My phone said it was ready to update. This update became the starting foundation of the current version of Mindustry. I was amazed by the new graphics, mechanics, enemies, strategy, etc. I bought it on steam and started playing non stop. The game received constant updates and support.

The Good

The gameplay on PC is very seamless. You have a flying ship that can move anywhere you want and you build anywhere to. Each game follows a similar progression of starting off with limited resources, trying to get top tier resources to build defenses and armys. but depending on gamemode or map it can change this. What is amazing is the amount of complexity you can include. The game gives you the option to use logic in your conveyor systems to help you maximize efficiency. If you are worried about having to manually build giant systems of factories and conveyors each game, the game has a system called schematics which allows you to save your builds to paste for later use.

Once you master the campaigns your first objective is to play multiplayer. The amount of servers constantly running is amazing. There are PVP, Attack, and survival maps. Playing on these servers, especially PVE, will help with your strategy and schematics. My favorite gamemode is PVP. You must build as fast as you can try to take out other players with your own bot army. The scale of these battles can be team's vs teams or solo players battling it out in a royale.

The game has a decent mod following already. The steam workshop is lacking in overhaul mods but the ones present are very good.

The Bad

Sadly nothing is perfect, (But this is close)

The campaign itself can be grindy at times. You have to gather resources and then launch (which ends the game) to collect them. Then you can research new items. This can get annoying if you don’t gather enough stuff, but at a certain point you unlock the launch pad which automatically launches items for you without leaving the game.

Multiplayer is one of the best parts of the game but can be the worst. A problem in the game is griefing. Every few games a griefer will join and try to destroy as many blocks as possible. Usually though it only takes 20 seconds before they are banned and the game continues. To avoid griefing you can join a PVP server with no teams but you can join when a game is halfway complete. You will instantly spawn on an army of bots that will destroy you instantly. But these problems are not enough to stop me from playing. Griefers aren’t common to ruin the game yet and hopefully before it gets worse, a better anti grief system is implemented. To fix the PVP problem just make your own game or try to join at the beginning of the game.

Final Choice

It should be no surprise that I highly recommend that game greatly. This is one of the few games that I constantly play.

For a game that only six dollars it over delivers. And if you don’t want to pay six, you can easily get it on sale or just get it for free. But if you want to support the developer, I would buy the game. The game offers so much and will continue with more updates

Tips

Check out the official discord, which can be accessed from the game, to get schematics and advice.
play multiplayer to discuss ideas and builds.

TL;DR

You like sandbox games with tower defense mechanics, buy this game. If not, its only six dollars.

EDIT: VERSION 6 IS HERE AND I LOVE IT (rip instant transport)
