With the amount of charm that was clearly put into this game, it is an absolute steal being free.

Well made and enjoyable. Do wish the the text bubble sound was less jarring cause that is all you are constantly hearing throughout the entirety of the game.

THIS REVIEW IS OF THE SINGLE PLAYER VERSION BECAUSE THAT IS HOW I PLAYED IT, ALL OF MY ISSUES WOULD BE REMEDIED WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THE AI PARTNER AND THE POORLY IMPLEMENTED CHARACTER SWAPPING:

I really wanted to like this game as the visuals were cool, the platforming mechanics were pretty unique, the story was interesting (however the fact that a lot of lore was locked behind mini movies you had to watch separately was kinda lame), and the level design kept the game fresh. Unfortunately, most of this was overshadowed by the fact that the bot, that controls the character you aren't using, is absolutely awful (the amount of times the bot just let go of something and plummeted to their death or didn't follow you in any autoscrolling sequence drove me crazy). A lot of this could have been remedied with seamless transition but unfortunately I found swapping between characters to be rather jank and this cost me countless lives in chase sequences or timing based areas. All this is extremely problematic and frustrating due to some of the precision that is required with this games platforming. I started off liking my time with this game, but by the end I was just wishing for it to be over as with the difficulty increase over the progression of the game the above issues became unbearable.

Insanely well made game! My only gripe being that I wish there was more in depth case solving with the notebook that you fill out. Awesome art style with stunning visuals, well crafted and interesting characters, gripping story, strings you along despite the rather linear storyline, little touches here or there that make certain interactions so much more enjoyable. What's not to love?

Pure fun if you are looking for super chill game to just sink your break time into. I will warn that 100%ing it can be a pain in the ass beause there is no active tracker for evolutions seen so it is kinda just trial and error plus luck. I also wish that some of the items were more useful.

Beautiful visuals with an interesting story (if you manage to finish it). Notes and optional collectibles are done in a cool way giving detailed historical descriptions. A plethora of combat options that keep encounters from being as linear as they could be (you will hate yourself if you don't figure out and abuse the most busted ones).

This is where the positives end: The difficulty spike is insane in the mid to late game and comes out of nowhere. The ranged combat is god awful which blows considering you need to use it if you want to stand a chance in a lot of fights. If you play on any difficulty higher than easy then the bosses are super unfun to face as they will bombard you with undodgeable aoe attacks and stunlock you into oblivion so you have to abuse ranged spam to come out on top which just promotes boring gameplay. The saving system is a cool idea and I think it works fine for the most part, the exception being their spacing in some levels is egregiously bad.

I was able to make it to the final boss on the games version of the hard difficulty, but was unfortunately forced to lower the difficulty after fighting the boss for a half hour cause even though I got close multiple times I didn't feel like spending an extra hour or two dealing with a boss that can basically two shot you with maximum upgrades.

My last two negative points are end of game factors: There are 3 different endings but there is no chapter select and with how much of a sanity investment beating it once was, there is absolutely 0 chance anyone is playing the entire game again just to change the final cutscene. Lastly, after you complete game there is no way to access your journal/collectibles menu and I doubt I need to explain why that is dumb (especially in a game where you can collect everything).

Early Access Review
The only reason this game has a mixed rating is that a bunch of spoiled kids couldn't handle the higher skill floor. If you want a challenge this game is great!
