DQB and DQB2 are a couple of my favorite games. I've played them half a dozen times across platforms, and I'm looking forward to another playthrough on PC!

Please Square-enix, I'm begging you, give us Dragon Quest Builders 3! Make the combat more like Pikmin, but with your towns NPC's! Let us build wave defense areas proper! Give us even more room types, bring back teleportals, and have online multiplayer throughout the campaign! I need more, more, more!

Step 1: Have a bunch of cool IP and characters
Step 2: Build fun platform fighter for those characters
Step 3: Over-aggressively monetize the game in ways so scummy it'd make gocha games blush
Step 4: Don't profit because everyone's moved on to something that isn't constantly asking for more money

As a side note, I foolishly believed in PFG and bought character tokens in the beta, and they no longer work the way they did when I bought them. When they were asked to make them work how they were when we bought them, the response was essentially 'lol, nah'.

Which was a weird hill to die on, but also kinda fitting, because 'lol, nah' has become how I feel about the game as a whole.

I can see why people like this, but I didn't get what I wanted from the experience. It's more shallow than I expected.

Combat isn't any more of a focus than any other skill of the game. Some people might like that, but for me it's the fatal flaw. I wanted to work in the other areas then feel the power progression of my efforts in combat. To feel like I'd gained ground and was stronger. Putting in a days worth of time, I expected to at least have found a really cool unique piece of loot or something. But because the whole point is a slow burn you can put in all that time and not really feel the return in your character's capabilities at all. Many of my skills are past the point of 50, but my character still feels like a weak nobody and nothing has really changed or gotten more interesting. In fact, I would argue it's much less interesting once you've learned the core gameplay loop.

I haven't played a lot of idlers, but I do have experience with cookie clicker. Until the endgame, that game feels it's constantly ramping up. Things get progressively bigger and more insane. Your upgrades continue to feel bigger and better. I didn't really ever get that feeling here... I kept waiting to feel like something was evolving, but nothing really jumped from level 1 to level 10, it was more like level 1 to 1.1.

I also found a lot of the UI to be needlessly cumbersome. The shop page is huge, and odd to navigate, and things are there that feel like they should be elsewhere... And I don't understand why I can't do things like buy fertilizer on the page where I USE/APPLY the fertilizer. This seems like it'd be a slam dunk for an easy one click to buy and apply, but for whatever reason it's not even found on the same page. It also lacks any form of notification for desktop, which is just weird for a game like this, that has made it a point to have push notifications on mobile...

The base game system's also just don't feel as interwoven as I feel as they should be. Each skill feels like it contributes to one other small area of the game and itself, rather than progressing your character or wider areas of the game.

DLC helps fix this, having skills that make you better at all the other parts of the game blanketly. The astrology skill in particular was my favorite, because the theme was cool, and I felt like progressing it was progressing all other areas of the game rather than just one or two. Even the gold stardust was a good source of money, so you could work at everything while working on one thing. I wish all the skills in the game felt that way. But when I realized I wasn't really having that much fun with the core elements of character progression, my interest as a whole fizzled out.

It might have gotten better later on, and maybe I'll tinker with it some more. IDK.

I know from the reviews a lot of people love this game, and I can see how. But for me it's more of an idler with RPG elements, when I was wanting an RPG with idler elements. Cheers.

I'll try to be brief. If I could sum up this game in one word, it would be potential.

It feels like it aims to be exactly what you'd want from a Zelda Maker. The level of polish it already has is crazy for an early access title. The graphics are great, the music is great, everything feels cohesive. Other than the lack of content, it feels like a finished product. But the content is where you can feel the early access part. Normal enemy variety is kinda small, only 2 bosses, no more than a few secondary slot items(with some real staple Zelda stuff missing, like a bow and hookshot), no fleshed out campain features, and the hub world is super sparse. I also don't like that there's only one sword in the game, and hearts are at a set amount and can't be changed per dungeon.

However, while early access is always a gamble, the level of competence and shine on what's already here gives me high hopes that they can make this game everything it should be, and more.

This is one of those games where every time you play it, you like it more. The more you unlock the more fun it is to build your run's synergy.

Early game is harder, because you're learning and so much stuff is locked, But there's always that next unlock, that next run to beat, that next goalpost. The more time you put into it, the more addicting it becomes... I love it.

My biggest complaint is the boss blinds that keep you from seeing your cards. It's not a fun mechanic, it's just tedious and annoying, and doesn't have any counterplay that feels effective or reliable.

But that's a small blight on an otherwise fantastic game. I don't say this about many games, but I would even recommend it at full price. It's that good.

If you look at the gameplay, knowing it's a roguelike, and think 'that seems like something I would like', you probably would. It's exactly what it looks like, and it does it well. Unique, interesting, fun.

The base building part was better than expected, but not exactly amazing. It is mostly just a method of progression, and as you reach the limits of progression it no longer serves much function.

There are some small bugs, and several balance issues, but nothing so glaring that it substantially harmed my experience.

8/10 - I've really enjoyed it.

When this game came out I could play a couple hours between each crash.

Now I can't even get to the title screen without it crashing.

My computer is plenty powerful enough to play. Have verified files and un/reinstalled.

Very unhappy.

4-9-24 update, still can not get past the title screen.

This is way too slept on. A Jackbox game, but with waaaaaaaay more TLC. Workshop Clip Packs are awesome.

This game had a good degree of complexity and things you could do before this expansion. With the expansion there's even more things pulling at you to be done every single turn. I'm just starting my journey with it, but so far for me it makes things a little too tense, where it was once a chill relaxing experience. However, I'm not going to say that makes the expansion bad, but it does make it not for everyone.

And because it's not for everyone, what makes this expansion bad, is that they force you to play it in matchmaking. Players with it can not select to play without it. Players without it still have to play with it on even if they don't own it. I understand a desire not to split up your playerbase if it can be helped, but with changes to the core game this drastic, it should be optional.

And because everyone has to play it in matchmaking, if you're just gonna be playing matchmaking, there's no point in buying this. You get access to the gameplay of it without purchasing. So... why is that not more clear on the store page?

Expansion also came with bugs, which I would forgive and give time to work out if it weren't for the above issues.

I love the base game, and will recommend it to anyone, but I don't understand the logic behind how they implemented this expansion.
