This is a unique RTS game, although it's not for everyone, it really suits my tastes.

Things I like:
-Slow paced and pretty chill, you usually have a lot of time before you get attacked which lets you focus on building your economy and planning your strategy

-Randomized maps mean that you can't memorize map layouts and puts an emphasis on scouting, while leveling the playing field for newer players

-Some matches can have many players (been in matches with like 20+ players before) on a HUGE map which really changes the way you think about strategy compared to a typical RTS game. Some units may take 5+ minutes to traverse the map for an attack- maybe build a forward base or use faster units instead?

-Rather than being stuck with a preset faction, you choose different cultures as you tech up over the course of the match, allowing you to adapt your strategy to the map and your opponents. Everyone starts as hunter-gatherers in the stone age, but then you could go Europe, and then Eastern Europe, finally culminating in Imperial Russia, which can be further advanced to the USSR.

-All of the different factions naturally results in a huge variety of units, many with interesting unique mechanics rather than simple stat changes. India has a truck full of tigers it can drive into the enemy base and then release upon their workers. Japan has a submarine that is also an mini aircraft carrier which launches suicide jets to crash into enemies, while France has a proper aircraft carrier that can serve as a forward operating base that lets your bombers re-arm and attack with very little downtime. Great Britain is the only faction that can build structures in the ocean, while China cannot build any aircraft, artillery, tanks, or mines (although they can build a supply center that allows them to purchase tanks and artillery from other nations). Germany has a huge cannon that can shoot across the entirety of some maps, and can release small remote controlled mines to blow up enemy vehicles. And there's much more I haven't even mentioned.

-There's a ton of different strategies, and frequent balance updates means the meta never gets too stale. Do you rush armored swordsmen and decimate the nearest base? Or rush to the industrial era without building a single military unit and just hoping you don't get attacked? Risky, but it might be worth it. Or maybe you play it safe, focusing on economy and defenses? One of the few RTS games where you can see a variety of strategies in a match, especially in a team match where frontline players build a strong defense, second line players build an army to rush, while backline players boom their economy.

Better than I was expecting. More interesting mechanics than other BR games. And no fall damage!

Very well designed. Great story and music. It's short, but there's a lot crammed into that short time.

The only negative thing I have to say about the game is that there are some times when you are just sitting there waiting for an animation to end, and theres a couple sections which involve long walks around the mansion.

Still, it's terrific. You can tell a lot of effort was put into this. Probably a 9/10 for me.

I've met the developers in real life. They are stand up guys who really care about their game, This is not more $60 shovelware, this is a passion project- that alone should be enough for you to consider it.

This game is just awesome. I can say that this is the ONLY class based game I have ever played where I like every character. Music is also great, Mick Gordon did a few of the tracks.

Pretty good game. Mix of puzzle solving sections and enemy avoidance sections. Occasionally the two are combined to make you miserable.

It was cool but I don't think it was quite as amazing as some of these other reviewers are saying. The story was good but it wasn't particularly mindblowing. Asks some deep questions.

I didn't like the "monsters." They felt either way too easy to avoid in some parts, and almost unfairly difficult to avoid in other parts. I hear there's a mod which removes them- after having played the vanilla game I kinda wish I had done that.

I would definetely pick it up on sale but I don't think it's worth $30, especially considering it came out in 2015.

As a huge fan of the System Shock, Bioshock, and Dishonored series, I must say that Prey tops them all with its hands tied behind its back.

I could talk for hours about what I like about the game, but to be short- it is good in every aspect. The story is excellent, the combat is satisfying, the mechanics are interesting, the atmosphere is compelling and immersive. The sound design and graphics are not quite as "10/10" as the rest of the game but they are still pretty good. I would love to tell you about all the moral decisions you can make in the game and all of the great story aspects, but really, you missing out on a lot of you read any spoilers. Try to go into the game with as little info about the premise as possible!

Really the only bad things I have to say about the game is that there are a lot of weird sound bugs where voice lines will get played over each other and then you can't hear what anyone is saying. And also, and this is a more personal opinion thing: The first 75% of the game is paced very well. You feel quite weak, as your weapon selection is limited, your ammunition is scarce, and your maximum health is low. This forces you to approach every new problem in a creative way, like making use of a combination of tools just to take down a single enemy, or avoiding enemies with stealth. However, there's a certain point in the game where you stop encountering more difficult enemies, but at this point my character was still not particularly deadly. However, I kept getting upgrades while the enemies had already peaked. This led to me eventually becoming a badass unstoppable killing machine, which is fun for a little bit, but gets old pretty quickly and really kills the fun of combat in the latter half of the game.

But I'm really nitpicking here. Like I said, it's pretty much a 10/10 game for me. Definetely would reccomend.

It's not a good game. But it is a fun game. And that's what's important right?

Most of the reviews seem to cover the gameplay pretty well, so I mainly want to talk about whether or not players who spent more money or have been playing longer have an advantage. Is the game pay 2 win? Yes, definetely. But I didn't spend any money on the game and I have no problem wiping the floor with 90% of the players I come across, whether they are paying players or not. And there is nothing that affects game balance that cannot eventually be earned for free. Some would call this more of a "pay2skip" system where you can pay to accelerate your progression.

One thing that is nice about the game is that with rare exception, every bonus you get has a drawback. There are a few things in the game that are straight upgrades with no downside, but I have played well over a hundred matches at this point and I can count on one hand the number of times I saw another player with a setup that felt unfair or overpowered.

The game is more balanced than most people think. Even the stuff that seems obviously overpowered is not always so strong in practice. For example, the reinforcement upgrade for tanks. Sure, you get 3 tanks. But, I can spawn my tanks faster. So, who cares if you get more tanks in the long run, if I can rush your base before you ever get a chance to do so? Or, maybe you have some really powerful support cards which let you spawn 3 tanks at once for very little cost. Sure, that's nice, but now you have a bunch of vehicles grouped together with no infantry support, and you have no resources left to support their push either, while meanwhile I'm well stocked on cruise missiles and soldiers with rocket launchers.

I even make the same mistake as well at times. "Oh, this long range upgade is going to make my sniper so powerful," I think to myself as he gets rushed down and grenaded to death. My conclusion is, yes the game is pay2win, in the sense that you can spend money to get an advantage over thsoe who don't, but the game is usually more balanced than it seems, and it mainly just comes down to who is the better player in the end.

Oh also, complaints about queue times are ridiculous, I almost always find a match within 5-10 seconds of queueing. At most sometimes it will take a minute and a half but it's uncommon.
