This game is basically the McDonalds of retro FPS games.

Is it edible? Yes. Is it good? No. Is it filling? Not really. Will it tide you over until you can get to Pizza Hut?

You bet your fat ass it will.

I absolutely love this little game, and I remember commenting on it on Imgur some time ago when it was being posted there. I was excited then, and I'm excited now!

So the premise of the game is super simple: You're a Grim Reaper - Not THE Grim Reaper - whose job is... To sit at a desk, mark profiles of humans to live or die, talk to your boss, go to bed, and... Repeat. For a whole month. That's it.

However, the game emphasises more than just simple Papers Please-esque gameplay. It emphasises a deeper story, a deeper finality, and more dialogue and choices. And like it's... "Predecessor", it has a bunch of different endings depending on the choices you make. The story is intriguing, the voice acting is well done, the characters are sincerely interesting, and the music is surprisingly pleasant, if a bit simple.

That said, the game also sports a Streamer Mode, where players in your chat can vote on who lives or dies, allowing for much more randomized playthroughs.

All in all, the game gets 2 big thumbs up, a big thank you, and a pawsitive review. You'll understand that last one later.

Holy Christ, where do I begin? The invincible enemies that harass you at random? The meager amount of levels you replay over, and over, and over again? The awfully done rogue-like system that forces you to play 5-10 levels in a row without getting hit more than once or twice? Sure you CAN heal... If the game feels generous enough to give you that as one of the three mid-node rewards. And then you're giving up other things like the ability to punch bullets back at enemies.

All in all this is a slog, a chore, and quite frankly not worth the price. Not even close. Maybe as a 5 dollar, 1 hour mini-story to wrap up the cliffhanger of the first game - since that's about where the game becomes stale - but certainly not a drawn out, heavily padded $30 "sequel".

While it's not so much the difficulty that gets me, it's the enemies that, even at point blank range, have the uncanny ability to side-step my shots. This led me to try the Katana. Being able to deflect bullets is great. Until it means you have no way of dealing with ranged enemies. Which can sometimes overwhelm you as they side-step their own bullets time and time and time again.

I really wanted to like this, I tried several times to get into it. But ultimately it's done little better than the original, and a lot of things, frankly, worse.

It's honestly the dumbest game on Steam. I've never seen worse animations or graphics. But it's one of the best games on Steam.

Short version: Pretty good. Rough around the edges, needs some polishing to optimize performance, maybe add a few more packs of enemies to one specific level, and fix a few of the bugs like the missing Devastator scope. Otherwise the game is an absolute blast to fight through with a nice variety of weapons, jokes, locations, and enemies. 7/10. (Might update later if Croteam updates the game.)

Long version: Well, we're back and this time it's not another trip through Egypt (Thank god). This time we go through a nice variety of locations: Greece, France, Italy, Russia, and so on. The actual levels are pretty nice all things considered. Sizeable arenas for larger fights, and secrets galore, the latter of which is a little disappointing at times with difficulty vs reward. But overall the rewards are often very powerful, making for a much more Serious experience.

Weapon variety is huge as always, including a newer Rocket-Chainsaw Launcher. Dual-wielding making a more formal introduction this time around sees that you have the excessive firepower to push through massive hordes, on top of the ability to ride on the backs of certain enemies through the introduction of unlockable skills. And the best part is there's no grind. Just like Doom before it, you find SS4's version of Argent Energy, and pick a skill to unlock as you move down the branches. It's very simple, adds a lot to the gameplay, and doesn't demand more of the player while doing so. Just that they look good doing it.

A few problems I ran into the game included the aforementioned Devastator scope simply missing, only being just a couple of floating lens caps. There was a bit of texture pop-in, quite a bit of terrain clipping, and brief holes in the ground at times. But overall the game ran smooth enough that I was able to finish it without much trouble on Normal difficulty.

Overall I'll give this game a Recommendation with caution. It's a flawed game right now, and needs work. And I will agree the price tag is a little high for the quality. But if you're looking for something to scratch that itch the way Doom Eternal didn't with it's lack of ammo, look no further, because there's the usual excess. Just the way Sam likes it.

I thought this was supposed to be eternal? Since when does 2 months constitute eternal?

Update: With Denuvo removed from singleplayer, I can wholeheartedly recommend this game. Just be careful with their titles in the future. If they did it once, they'll do it again.

Good graphics, fun gameplay, awesome music by based Mick Gordon, yadda yadda yadda. It's Doom. You know what you're getting.

Overall: Having to play aggressively to collect money and risk getting stunned/nuked is a bit of a downer, but overall this top-down Doom-esque shooter is pretty fun. Just make sure to validate files if you get sudden, consistent crashes.

It's like the first game but better.

Imagine being able to punch people in the face really hard, but also with chainsaws. Oh, and laser eyes. Laser swords are back, and you can also hit people with semi-trucks. Sort of. It's still awesome though. Did I mention the chainsaws?
