A little while ago, I saw a video titled something along the lines of "Shadow of the Erdtree is getting review bombed for being too difficult". I'm ignoring any and all spoilers, so I move on with my life. Later, some friends of mine are discussing how difficult this DLC is and I get confused. I haven't had much difficulty with it myself. So I check some reviews to see why people are complaining. Most that are complaining are complaining about how hard-hitting these bosses are. And, if people are having that issue, I have to wonder - How are they playing?

I went into the DLC with no armor or weapons just as a fun little experiment. Time goes on, I get armor, weapons, etc. I'm dealing good damage in the end. I begin to encounter very difficult bosses, where I end up taking too much damage and deal very little. Just like in the base game, I take this as an excuse to explore a little more, get some upgrades of some sort. So far it has worked for every boss i've had issue with.

TL:DR
Treat this like the base game and difficulty shouldn't be an issue - explore and upgrade if something seems too difficult.

Otherwise, everything else about this DLC is great. Cool bosses so far, cool weapons, etc.

I came into this game with experience in Dark Souls 3, so I already was familiar with the movement and feel of this game upon first playing it. I love this game with all my heart, and fully intend to spend many more hours playing this game. The game is beautiful, the main bosses are all great, and if I don't end up enjoying a side boss I can just... ignore it. As of now, I'm working on beating the game with every single weapon possible because I do enjoy this game that much. The only main downside in my opinion is that the game ramps up massively in difficulty into new game cycles, specifically around ng+5 and beyond.

Fun game, even with just the base game characters. Even then, would heavily recommend getting the Ultimate Edition as the extra stuff you get from that is absolutely worth it. Also has a consistent stream of new content, so you always have something to look forward to.

I got this game about 3 days ago and already have 53 hours in the game. I absolutely love this game, and I hope the amount of time I've spent in it proves that to you.
