The game is unironically a ton of fun whether you're solo or not, and the amount of just random small bits of quality of life charm the developers put into the game is absolutely wonderful. The majority of cosmetics in the game, that being all of the ones that aren't with the supporter packs, are entirely free to earn through just playing the game. The sensation of FOMO(Fear Of Missing Out) just plainly doesn't exist here in any of the products that the game has introduced to it. The game's developers are extraordinarily active in communicating with the game's community as well as other studios in the industry, which is absolutely wonderful to see. And the "seasons" of the game last an extremely long amount of time, in which they still receive several major updates per season which allows players a very large amount of time to progress the seasons' cosmetic unlocks. Overall the game absolutely deserves its 'Overwhelmingly Positive' review score and I cannot recommend the game enough to anyone reading this. It's truly a spectacular game developed and maintained by a spectacular dev team over at Ghost Ship. Love it to death.

Over the past year or so, a series of several updates have landed that have caused me to want to update my review for Helldivers 2.

- A lot of the stun-lock problems caused by small enemies were generally resolved barring rare enough instances that it's no longer an actual full-blown problem.

- Enemies are now easier to contend with across the board, and no longer spawn in seemingly endless hordes on higher difficulties.

- The gear in the game has been buffed and properly made usable over multiple patches, doing away with the feeling that you could only ever run one or two loadouts.

- Stratagems feel more impactful and reworks to a few of them have made it so they feel like you're taking meaningfully different choices each mission.

-More Warbonds for more fun toys.

And finally the single biggest change that makes me able to actively recommend this game is that FINALLY THEY'VE FREED THE GAME FROM SONY'S GARBAGE PURCHASE RESTRICTIONS and Arrowhead's also 100% self-funding their next project so they don't have the SONY problem again.

SONY CAN KINDLY STEP ON A PEBBLE FOR THAT CRAP.

I genuinely cannot recommend this dumpsterfire game for a few reasons.

1 - It feels like you cannot enjoy the game without friends in any capacity due to the toxic nature of communication within the community as the toxic nature of EVERYTHING within the community of the game.
2 - The it's nearly impossible to get an all-human game without forcing yourself to play the ranked mode which is absolutely abysmal for casual players.
3 - The game is HORRIBLY pay to win so if you just throw money at the game you're almost guaranteed to by yourself have the strength of 2 or 3 other non-paid ships just for throwing money at the game.
4 - The low-mid tier ships feel absolutely horrible to play due to the horrible matchmaking which more often than not in my personal experience lands you in a game with ships 2 tiers above you and completely stops you from being able to hold an impact.

I try to just play the game for fun but that feels horrendously impossible with how the community and the game's matchmaking are. Will I keep playing this game on the shoulders of having nothing better to do? Probably. Can I even in the slightest recommend others play this garbage? Nope. You're better off going to play some random gacha game with how much money you need to sink into this game to have a ship that's not going to just get outgunned at random by somebody a tier or two in ship below you in one of the game's scout boats(the cruisers) who just happened to have an open wallet at the time. And even then for the non-casual players your personal skill doesn't matter at all because if any of your teammates happen to be just trying to shut their brain off and have fun because 9 times out of 10 the enemy team is all just gonna sweat and focus everything on one person at a time because that's just how you gotta play the game to actually be able to do anything.
