The new engine is a huge step forward for ArmA. Reforger an impressive teaser of what ArmA4 may bring. The included gamemode is rather cool too.

Well, that's about it though, it's just that, a teaser.
Great if you're an arma fan and just cant wait to try your hands on that new engine.
Also great if you're a modder.

Not so great if you're expecting a replacement for ArmA3.
This isn't that. Not even close.



While I personally don't mind the pricetag (I felt like I owe them a bit more for ArmA3 considering I only payed 24€ for that in the alpha and ended up playing for several thousand hours...), 30€ for this is a bit too steep. Maybe 20€ would've been more reasonable.

I recommend it because I love ArmA and some of these reviews feel a bit harsh. Just, please.... think twice before you spend your money on it.

Still not quite arma level but this little teaser has turned into an actualy decent game now.

I cant shake the feeling that they're putting more effort into making fancy trailers than into actually trying to make the game even remotely as good as the trailers imply.

What can I say... I'm impressed. Finally an early access title that doesn't feel like an unpolished alpha that probably never gets finished.

The whole game is a good, wellrounded experience.
I love the attention to detail, the map and the whole visual design.
Even the animations are great – the way the bugs and spiders (oh my god those spiders...) move is positively terrifying. :D

They did it again :)

They've improved the game drastically since the last time I tried it.
If they keep at it, this may become some healthy competition for pavlov and maybe even Onward.


Certainly worth a try for 16 bucks

No doubt about it, the graphical downgrades that came with the quest version are unfortunate and the devs probably could've handled that a bit better. However it also brought some improvements and I have faith that they will bring most of it back eventually. It still looks "okay".

Having a larger playerbases is also certainly a good thing (just look at "contractors" to know why). It's just unfortunate (again) that this new playerbase largely consists of children that are barely big enough to even play the game properly (without standing on their sofa...). However, it really isn't fair to blame that on the devs. Bad parenting is at fault here.


Anyway.
Onward is still the best semi-realistic VR shooter in my eyes. Yes Pavlov might be able to compete, but only if they add a hardcore mode to it and proper coop.

TLDR: There is just no real alternative to onward. So yes, I recommend it.

Above is my original review... and yes I still want to recommend it but I'm changing this to negative fow now, until the devs learn to treat their players a bit better. Also:
- Lack of communication / roadmap
- Gamebreaking bugs on some hardware
- Game is still not back where it was before the quest update
- AI is bad
- Coop is bad due to the way the AI spawns in late
- We have no direct control over the lobbies we host ! (you can host a game and the next moment a bunch of kids join your lobby and votekick you out)
