Game is tight, if you're looking for a platform fighter on PC that rivals Smash Brothers look no further than Rivals of Aether II

I'm still pretty new to metroidvanias and I'll watch some videos and read a bit more and update my review if necessary, but I don't think this game really lives up to the hype.

I feel like for a metroidvania the gameplay takes kinda second stage to a grand story they had to tell and while the setting is no doubt interesting the characters motivations and dialogue are hard to follow or don't make much sense making it hard to feel any attachment to the characters. This can be said most of all for the protagonist Robin who seemingly has no agency in the story and only really listens to what others tell her to do and kill whatever is in their way.
While there are plenty of puzzles and breaks from what ultimately felt like a pretty un-engaging combat system the puzzles felt either obvious or tedious sometimes both and generally your reward for interacting with these puzzles are crafting ingredients to make upgrades that hardly affect the way you interact with the game.

I feel like there certainly could be an interesting story with maybe not these characters but certainly this setting it feels like the developer may have gotten to grand in scope and certain elements kinda didn't get the refinement one would hope.
Still very impressed by the work of the developer and the art and setting are no doubt praise-worthy but it doesn't really feel like a game you need to play even if you're a fan of the genre.

Unbelievably fun party game that combines the intensity of a rumble between friends on small well designed maps with the chaos that comes from deck optimization and getting random cards each round.

Can't recommend it enough if you have some friends to play with absolutely pick it up and give it a try.

I believe the game will be good eventually, but it's flaws in how it's approaching micro-transactions shouldn't be ignored.
FOMO shouldn't be abused when better solutions exist no alternatives to earn the premium currency and no confirmation as to whether you can earn battle pass rewards after a new battle pass is released is anti-consumer in my opinion.

Man this game really had a lot going for it, but I have never seen a group of developers so disconnected from their playerbase.

The cycle of the community finding an answer to the hoardes of enemies the game throws at you followed immediately by the developers seeing the meta develop and immediately nerfing the only good way to handle encounters in a good way has happened multiple times.

What's more despite the CEO stepping down to have more control over development the cycle continues and weapons and equipment continue to get nerfed to the point they don't feel impactful or fun. This coupled with several unbelievable bugs like how fire damage over time didn't work for the longest time if you weren't the host and releasing new monthly weapons that are uncontestably worse variants of base weapons in the game boggles the mind.

Edit: Having continued to follow the development I am genuinely impressed with the change in how they are balancing and handling the game. I still have yet to try these new changes out for myself but intend to soon. I will adjust the review once I give out the new balancing direction a try.

I think there's a good game in here and I believe some developers love and passion shines through in the project, but I'm not happy with how development has gone and I doubt that will change anytime soon.

Truly unique game that is a must play for anyone that wants a feeling of discovery or loves hunting secrets.

Even ignoring it's main spectacle with you learning how to play the game bit by bit by unlocking the tutorial it still stands out as one of the best action-adventure "Zelda-likes" I've played.

Pacing felt a touch slow and the story was fairly predictable however a couple of the puzzles were really quite solid and they were just in the difficulty range where I didn't need to look them up which is quite nice.

One of the more unique first person shooters I've played.
Lots of variety in the order you can tackle the game's objectives and many different ways to play.
Well worth your time and money if you're interested in Arkane's other works (Dishonored and Deathloop) especially considering how cheap you can often find it on sale.
