Its a good DLC, with an interesting working faction. Does it need some balancing especially around cost? yes but the base idea works and offers a good bit of diversity, even if I think it could use a techpriest enginseer.

But I also see the weird desinge choice of making las weapons into slow moving projectile weapons, heard but not confirmed that it was wanted that way by a GW rep/desinger. And its intentional considering the game already has a variety of beam weapons, that are working well in game.

But generally it offers good gameplay, and a variable roster with interesting gear options... **looks dissapointed at Khorne Daemons**

Its nice, just not overly so. Offering a good basic WH40k mood and athmosphere, with lots of pretty models and fancy effects. For the rest I ll have to heavily differenciate between PvE and PvP.

PvE: Nids and 1k Sons look good and move as you would expect them, as well as mostly using approaches that they would in the lore. Especially here I have to praise the 1k sons basically having casted glamour of tzeentch and temporal surge casted on them while also casting perplex on players. Generally the enemy variety is good, while not exeptional with good bossfights. While melee Combat is not extensive as in say Darktide it still fills its role well. Though I d have to remark that in campaign both in melee and ranged the weapon options somtimes feel a bit samesy, there for example an option to look at the stats of weapons in it could have helped. Though the Operations are doing that a bit better. While on that point that the only point where you have acess to a flamer is within a single campaign mission, where in all honesty its used pretty well as a level effect. Sadly the operations currently, while having mostly random spawns, are missing out a bit in diversity due to not having special level modifiers or something along those lines and it would be nice to be able to test out your weapons on the battlebarge. Additionally I dont feel to well about the interbalancing of some of the weapons though that might just be a me problem. Aside from that its a bit sad that you cant directly play the chaos factions in PvE but you can still get to kinda play as some of them in primaris armour if you use their colorthemes (Hydra Dominatus). But that comes with the caviat, since unlocking the color themes costs the same currency as leveling your classes in operations. Personally I would mark that the vanguard and the assault also dont have their full mobility in operations. My last remark on this topic would be that player interaction with ranged enemies can be a bit cumbersome as there is no cover system and not even a ducking/crouching option, making ranged combat as well feel unrewarding at times as you dont really have a way to replenish your armour outside melee tilting the balance harshly towards melee combat especially since you cant to my knowledge fully dodge masses of ranged fire at medium distance.

PvE Story: I detached this from the general PvE as its way more subjective. So lets start, generally the game does a good job introducing the nids to the scene, less so for the 1k sons. The Deathwatch introduction made me hope, but it was as to be expected ultraberries for the rest of the campaign, while titus seemd to have developed a bit more as a character. Focus here on the "bit". Also while the story sometimes frames interesting interactions with his team, the world and the chapter members it all falls a bit short in execution and lets some strings it spun unattached (which is ok, this is not a deep lore RPG game, though people love the "brother, purge this heretics roleplay"^^). Heavily focusing on battlefield athmospere and action. Also for a game that probably put a big meaning on being for the wider audience, the introduction of the 1k sons was in my opinion a bit rushed. And while the game certainly wasnt super accurate in a few ways, I and I hope you as well are willing to give it some artistic leeway (Russ?) in that regard, at least for the minor stuff. Spoiler: || im a bit sad that they didnt go deeper into the necrons kinda felt like something was planned but was cut at the end also making the end feel a bit rushed story wise ||

PvP: I would say its ok at best, though like in pve its missing cover mechanics or ducking to make ranged combat a bit more interesting, but personally I feel the weapons feel more similar in this than in PvE. It still offers some good quick fun in the 3 game modes it has, but its very limited with currently only 3 maps to play on. Melee in my opinion in pvp is abyssmal, not because its weak but because its very non interactive, dosnt really an action counter table and blocking in melee really feels like a joke because it gives your opponent the upperhand as any animation you start from it will likely set you back in a damage trade which all that is melee is atm. For ranged combat as well the missing option to duck to avoid headshots and take cover makes it outside of class abilities less interactive again, allowing classes like heavies and bulwarks to take too key roles providing actual cover. Though moreso than in PvE operations the class abilities feel more impactfull which mostly is a good thing since some even offer real mobility and capabilities to actually make use of the verticalities of the level as other classes arent able to climb or jump onto anything as long as there isnt a ramp. Additionally having to first unlock weapons for the pvp mode only feels nonsensical to me as you can still be paired as a lvl 5 with a lvl 15 since again some of the inter weapon balance dosnt feel to right.

General Critique:
Loading screens and Lobby systems. So far I havent found a way to do fully custom lobbies in pvp. The game is packed with useless loading screens : Load into the game -> load into the game mode -> load into the lobby -> load into the gameplay -> load into the lobby -> leave team/lobby dissolves -> load into the game mode -> load into the lobby -> leader leaves the lobby -> load into the lobby with a new leader. Personally im happy I got a SSD on a m2 slot otherwise this would very annoying, this way its just annoying. Makes you wish for In menue lobbies, instead of the weird trend of in game lobbies...
Chaos Customization: I get it its a game about loyalists but half the legions arent, and having their designes classbound in pvp and their heraldry being lackluster in contrast to the extensive loyalist ones feels disheartening for even a casual chaos enjoyer.

I still can recommend the game as you can have a good time with it, and its pretty af. As a 1k sons fan while im naturally missing some stuff, I appreciate the deteiled works on whats in the game. Generally it hits the 40k war athmosphere pretty well, even if its suffering from some redundancies and limitations, both in gameplay and story telling. I would prob wait for a sale though, coming with the addvantage for receiving additional content when it has released than and maybe more polished gameplay, even if Im currently in doubt about its longlevity in contrast to other pve or pvp shooters/ action games.

Tried to play it through 2 times, only managed to get to the end of chapter 4 on the last try befor it got to dull, it has average gunplay, nice but tidious suvival aspects, mostly uninteresting characters, and just not a good story setup as well as playout that a lot of times interferes more with the gameplay rather than supports it. Looks good though...

Now that the game has a Map and even a Campaign editor it offers more replayability than ever and with the ever growing roster of factions it more than shapes up to be a really good 40k game.

Early Access Review
So far so good. What I can most certainly say about the game its a very confortable game, not forcing you to eat every 5 minutes but instead giving you buffs for it if you do eat stuff and it at some point unlocks chests from which you can craft directly while in the base. Additionally it sports a nice miniblock building system allowing for a lot of customization and a nice handcrafted world, with many secrets, small background stories for most areas and some jump and runs. And while the Combat system isnt to deep, missing combos and special weapon attacks it still fullfills it purpose and has some entertaining features.

From what I see the game so far is quite promising (especially for an Early Access release) and would be really great if they expanded upon the combat and maybe some mobility options (the latter they might have more than I know of due to my current low gametime)

Its a good 40k game, with as of know some technical problems and some minor questionable gameplay designe choices, but all in all offering a nice story and athmosphere with fun rpg gameplay within the 40k setting.

I can really recommend gladius relics of War for a multitude of reasons, while it looks a lot like a Civ game its really more focused arround combat and does so very well, offering more diverse combat mechanics and an economy system focused for the purpose of combat while still reasonably complex. Though what it skips out on in that regard is Diplomacy, no open teams no trade and so on.

The factions are quite diverse in most of the things they do, from which ressources they use for what and what their units can and cannot do, which partially is thanks to the game beeing based on Warhammer 40k offering a large background to draw from. But this also comes with some drawbacks like the buy in price to have access to everything beeing quite high, but you dont need anything but the base game to already have fully fledged out factions in a good combat game.

So I can really recommend this game and it goes on high sales quite a lot so you can usually get some dlcs than too for low cost. I hope you decide to invest into this fun game and than have fun with it.

While it offers a new campaign (which is certainly the strenght of the base game) and faction, the implementation of air units wasnt well done.

Gotta divide this into 3 sections:

1. Campaign:
Good campaign, with good mission and map variety as well as a decent cinematic presentation, as well as a coop option (which as usual makes it even better) in an interesting and so far little utilized setting. The variety of missions and scenarios work really well to bypass the games shortcoming in gameplay and is short enough you might not fully get to feel them. (and for those ppl that need to feel achievements there are secondary objectives on every mission for a kind of ingame score system)

2. Skirmish and outside campaign activities
Sadly here is where the game starts to show its weakness, due to a very streamlined gameplay mechanics that seem to be focused arround competetive pvp it misses out a bit in gameplay variety (partially too due to a limited mappool) as there are no upgrades for units exept the ones received from level ups, little basebuilding and very limited troop variety in the infantry department. Though those little differences actually come into play once you learned to make use of them through the game mechanics, you ll have probably seen most the game has to offer gameplay wise once you learned them leaving much to be desired in terms ot tactical and strategical variety, making it a bit boring to play for a long time (but still fun for a while). As well again for those that need achievements to get their dopamin levels going a reward challange system also unlocking some skins and character portaits ect (not really interesting for me though). Additionally you got a conquest mode while not beeing a true sandbox paint the map still offering some diverse missions, (at least more diverse than basic skirmishes). Also there is a survival defense coop mode.

3. Potential
I regret to inform you that we arrived at the sad section of the review. And while I recommend this game (especially on sale) as its whole setting and base game had good potential to be expanded on, it sadly leaves you hungering, as expansion didnt expand meaningfully on the main game and now the realistic hope of this game expanding on its systems and offering gameplay expanding content are quite realistically low. Which saddens me a good bit, and might you too if you enjoy it till it becomes monotone...
