Early Access Review
This game, much like the original Deep Rock Galactic, is an interminable grind, an utter slog through mission after mission with scarcely any variety and no real reason to keep playing. Unfortunately, while Deep Rock Galactic has some variety in mission types, all Survivor has to offer is the same mission again and again and again and again: kill the bugs, run out the clock, kill the boss, move on. Do it until your eyes bleed.
The number of missions and amount of time spent upgrading weapons and classes just to make them viable on higher difficulties are insulting to the player, with 210 total weapon upgrade missions, 60 class upgrade missions, and 25 biome upgrade missions. These upgrade missions exist entirely aside from the main missions, which at least offer some objective variety... for as long as the three objectives per difficulty level per biome last. This amounts to 75 total objectives, 25 of which are simply to complete the run. Unfortunately, these objectives are static and permanent. There is no randomization or variety, and after completing the objectives there is no reason to return to a biome to replay it.
Unlike Deep Rock Galactic, there is nothing to unlock after the weapons and classes. There are no cosmetic items - no weapon skins, no beards, and most unbelievably, no hats. I don't know what you call a dwarf mining game without hats, but you sure as hell don't call it Deep Rock Galactic.
Additionally, a large number of weapons and classes simply don't put out enough damage to make sense for anything but a gimmick run on higher difficulties. While some weapons, like the Warthog Shotgun and Drak Plasma Carbine, are powerful enough to carry entire runs, other weapons, like the Lead Storm Powered Minigun and the Deepcore PGL, are active hindrances, cluttering the available upgrades with worthless dross that blocks meaningful upgrades from appearing. It is unbelievable that the developers could balance one weapon to slowly chip away at basic tier 1 bugs without being able to kill them while other weapons can punch through entire crowds of enemies without a single upgrade. A weapon should not require multiple epic upgrades just to achieve parity with other weapons.
It is clear that the developers do not actually play this game, much less other games in the genre. Aside from the obvious balance issues, simple quality of life options like a quick retry in missions are unavailable. Load times are interminable. Is your run off to a rough start, with the actively antagonistic RNG offering you terrible upgrades? Sit through a loading screen to return to the main menu, then navigate back through layer after layer of menus to select your run type, biome, class, and difficulty, and then sit through another loading screen before finally playing again.
This game was relesed Feb 14, 2024. The developers stated, "We expect Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor to be in Early Access for 6-12 months." 13 months later, the game is still riddled with bugs, and not the kind players can kill with about 40% of the weapons in the game. Some levels end with a black screen instead of the store, forcing players to navigate to the next level button without any visual input. Hazard 5 achievements do not work. At this point, nearly six months since the last update and with radio silence from the developers, it is safe to assume that this game is dead. I wish I had never purchased it. At this point, the best I can do is hope this convinces you not to purchase it.

Still pretty good, I guess, and Payday 3 is catching up.
