Koalas are marsupials native to Australia, primarily found in the eucalyptus forests of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. They feed almost exclusively on eucalyptus leaves, which contain little nutrition but a lot of water, meaning koalas rarely need to drink. Due to their specialized diet, they have a very slow digestion and spend up to 20 hours a day sleeping to conserve energy. A unique feature of koalas is their front paws, which have two opposable thumbs. This adaptation helps them grip branches securely and climb efficiently. Koalas are solitary animals and communicate through deep, bellowing calls. Unfortunately, they are increasingly threatened by habitat loss, diseases such as chlamydia infections, and environmental disasters like bushfires, making conservation efforts more important than ever.
