During the first hours of the game i was wondering how this was recieved less positively than the first game, the overworld was nice, bigger than the previous darksiders, the dungeons where interesting and the combat was improved. Later i understood that every good idea was rushed at the beginning and 3/4 of this game is plain simple filler. Once you reach the second overworld every dungeon becomes the same, it's a tedious and monotonous completion of almost identical dungeons, one after another, they all have the same models, same textures, they may introduce some new mechanics here and there but they are almost always really uninteresting. All of this would be bearable if it wasn't tens of hours long and with a non-sensical story : the plot is basically "you have to go there, talk to x" you talk to him, "bring me a, b and c artifacts", you do that "good now talk to y" ... repeat ... It's a quantity over quality galore and while it's aestetically well done it really doesn't help that it's all the same.
Also this version of the game is filled with bugs, you finish some quest and the game crashes, some softlocks because cutscenes don't start and you cannot move, i had this during the final boss, after beating his 2nd stage the game softlocked ... i just couldn't bare to finish it.
Get the first one instead of this, it has its own flaws and while it's not as good as the best zelda games, it has a great variety of locations and a solid combat system, it's overall a better packaged game with more polish and attention to details.

This is a dungeon crawler, remember the big world to explore and get immersed of the previous games ? Gone.
As much as i liked the two previous games i can't finish this. Without any major spoilers after the prologue you end up in a big dungeon and this is the game, you can't go back and explore the world or talk to any npc except in some flashbacks. If you like the genre you will probably enjoy this but if you finished 1 and 2 and you're excited to come back to Liberl and see the story unfold you may be in for a bad surprise.
To be honest i have to say that the already great combat system has been improved even more, now you also have time, space and miracle strenght/weakness together with the other elements, there are more attack mutations and overall it's just more polished.
But all the environments are really cheap copy/paste of old locations, the level design is really simple without any interconnections or puzzle of any sort, there isn't much of secret content and the blandness together with the lack of incentive of exploration makes the "journey" really boring.
The story is dwarfed by the complexity and depth of previous games.
I think this should have been more of a spin-off that a proper 3rd chapter.

This game has done the impossible, it uncrowned Super Metroid, this is the best metroidvania ever made.

I have to thank easy allies for spotlighting this game, i would have just placed this game into my wishlist and waited for the next steam sale, this is gem, a game that can go toe to toe with titans like the new zelda or horizon.
Even if this was a kickstarter don't treat it like it, because this has AAA quantity and quality, it's a bucket full of great ideas, it takes the best things about the original dark souls and adapts them into the metroidvania style, it's never too similar to dark souls like salt and sanctuary, it knows were its best to drop the souls formula, get back to metroidvania, to just get back to souls when its necessary.
The implementation of the mapping system is fantastic, a 2d game needs a map to be explored fully because you don't have many points of reference in two dimensions, the clever thing here is that the first time you enter a new area you actually have to go blind, without a map, later if you manage to find the map of the area you can look at it but it's not complete, you have to explore and draw it, and the only way to draw it is by getting to a save point, this may sound confusing but it works marvelously, you feel like you are actually exploring and you have to choose if keep going blind looking for a new save point or getting back after a while to save and draw the locations you've been into. The areas to explore are really big and they are amazingly made, with paths interconnecting the zones, and areas that can be discovered the first time in multiple ways, a la dark souls 1, a thing that has never been made in metroidvania before and it works exquisetly.
The controls are so fluid and responsive, bosses are really different and well designed, the game is challenging and it makes every mistake feel like its your fault, animations and artstyle are top quality with a dark malinconic atmosphere that is the stage of a sad but great plot.

I want to reiterate, don't think about this as "the next good kickstarter", this is not another guacamelee or axiom verge, games that were good 10-20$ metroidvania, the content here is 30h+ for the true ending with more than 140 unique enemies and many different locations to explore. Don't skip this.

This game is a praise to the videogame, as an interactive media, as a storytelling device, as an immersive tool. It mixes hack n slash with classic rpg with bullet hell in a marvellous fashion. The gameplay is top Platinum Games quality, with fantastic controls and insanely great bosses, the story and atmosphere are deep and cathartic , it's a story that utilizes the interactive nature of games to its fullest, that's why it excels.
Do i even need to talk about the musics ? We are talking about a candidate to the best videogame ost ever here.
Do a favor to yourself and play this game.

An insult to the Ace Combat series.
You have no controls over the flight, you can't roll or yaw, only go left or right, the game is gonna decide how to do it, when you're upside down it just doesn't let you do what you want and tries to readjust to a "normal" position. Most of the shooting mechanics is relegated to a "dogfight" mode which takes autocontrol of the plane and you just have to position a reticle over the enemy plane to hit it. Stay away from this, if you want ace combat play 5 or zero, they are the best.

What a great experience, Oxenfree is a story driven game with a fenomenal dialogue system that really feels natural and keeps the flow of the converstation without interrupting what you are doing. You will have to explore an abbandoned island with a mystery. From the art, to the voice acting, to the musics, everything is well refined. Gameplay may feel a little bit repetitive at times but it's the nature of this type of games. Definetly one of the best indies of the last years.

I was surprised how much this game hooked me up.
It's a really good metroidvania, it's not a long game and there are few dungeons, but they all have high quality level design and they are all different and original. Music fits the atmosphere of the locations, animations are great and the graphics why being low-pixel is really pleasant. The only main low point i found it's that it has a "gameboy view" meaning that characters are really close up and you cannot see much of the surroundings. If you like metroidvania you will surely like this

Ever wondered if old games where really better than today's or it's just nostalgia ? This game has a clear answer to that.
Visually, in my opinion, has the best pixel graphics ever made, you will have a grin on your face going through the stages and locations of this game, the art is just gorgeous, the colors and the wonderful animations tight so good with the excellent controls.
Gameplay-wise it implements an original flight mechanics that really works, zones are designed to be explored both horizontally and vertically, flying is really responsive and it just feels great.
It has a really good ost, with both calm or sad themes to "grit", adventurous musics.
The story is interesting with a good plot-twist towards the ending, and if i have to pick a negative side of the game i would say its length, the game is 7/8 hours long and it's not only a $/hours ratio issue, it's that it's a pity that such a game with fantastic characters and ideas ends so quickly, even if it's a different genre i had Chrono Trigger vibes from this game, the plot was sucking me in but unlike chrono it has not real time to fully develop, regardless this is the only issue i had with this game, everything else was not good, it was excellent.
I really hope to see more games like this in the future.

I really wanted to like this game, sadly it has too many issues.
The game presents itself with a really good dark theme and with the complicity of the visuals and musics it really delivers a great atmosphere. Sadly the first think you discover has many problems is the combat: it has the typical crpg style of combat but there's no mana only a limited amount of usages for any spell, the interface doesn't let you properly understand enemies hp/weakness or your chars positions and there's a really weird gear system: the better the armor the slower you attack (yes, for real), so the optimal way to play at higher difficulties is to have a big tank in the front and all the other characters naked in the back casting spells or throwing arrows ...
The leveling system disencourages combats and exploration, everything is quest related, after you killed a certain type of enemies a couple of times you won't get any more exp from killing them, it's a really weird system that seems stupid and dumb to implement in a high-fantasy "classic" crpg, maybe it will work better on their next game "Tyranny" but in this game is a disaster. You will end up getting 99% of your experience just by completing quests and the loot you find in dungeons is mostly trash, now join this to the combat system and it ends up it's not only worthless but a bad idea to explore dungeons after you complete the quest.
Also this game railroads you into making certain choices just because you're not powerful enough to do what you want, it's not that it's hard, it's plain out impossible, for example you have a choice "with me" or "against me" if you choose to go against the enemy he double shots your team, can i go back later ? yes, but why all the dungeon is easy and only the final boss is impossible ? This doesn't make any sense ...
There's a lot of bad optimization, even on high end pcs everytime you open the map or inventory the framerate drops and the game itself is filled of long loading screens everywhere (and i have a ssd, i can only image how long they are on magnetic disks).
The world is filled with stupid backers nps : there are tons of npcs that will "tell" you a vision about themselves, all these visions are stories made by the backers and they are so long and extremely boring, completely trowing you out from the immersion of the game.
I literally had to stop playing because of a bugged quest, i killed a character i had to talk to because it bumped into me earlier and triggered a fight, when i talk to her "side" i can only fight both the sides together all against me, i have no chance of surviving this, and yes, it's a main quest ...

Terrible combat, boring and repetitive "open world/s". It's an assassin's creed collectathon with a huge focus on the upgrade system. The overly appraised "nemesis system" is just a simple replace the "boss" system, these "warchiefs" are all the same except some miror differences, every approach to any fight is identic and the super easy gameplay surely doesn't help to give this game any depth. Probably one of the most overrated games ever.
