+ Great atmosphere, great art on the buildings, some enjoyable characters.

- Boring story, many hateable characters, no exploration (everything is marked on your map), no choices that are actually hard to make (except maybe the last one). This game should've been about exploring a beautiful cyberpunk city (seriously the art is top notch). But instead is just made to fit this weird ass narative about... equality??? I don't know, the story tries to be deep but is a pretty surface level take on alot of things.

♥♥♥♥ pashta she is annoying as ♥♥♥♥. Buy the game if you want but don't expect the story to be good. Control and Huxley are the only characters I liked.

Hello, Im really sad that I have to give this game a negative review.

I LOVED Alpha, the gameplay, the world, the monsters, the scenery, the EVERYTHING. It was beautiful, and I truly mean that. I loved that game to death. I have hundreds of hours in the alpha.

At the time of me writing this I have about 11 hours into the beta, I dont see that number going up if im going to be honest. Unfortunately with the current state of the game I have to give this a negative review.

Pros:
-The World/Art style is very nice

-The Monsters are cool

-Gameplay can be fun sometimes*

-Customizable loot is fun

-Nostalgia (If you played the alpha)

Cons:
-*Fighting mages/any spell casting enemy is obscene. Full 5 star legendary weapons + armour and I still get vaporized by a 5 Star mage boss. Fighting non-mage enemies devolves to – popping your ultimate and killing the monster in a few seconds or, if you don’t manage to kill it, running around in circles until your ult recharges and you can use it again. Starting out in a new region is basically cheesing enemies with your ultimate and running around in circles repeatedly because your left and right click attack does nothing.

-Im sure you've heard of the region lock... I have mixed feelings about it. It is a "ok" Idea, it was just executed really poorly. The idea behind it is to not make you super OP after a few hours like the progression in the alpha did. Which is fine, however I've heard people say that its meant to encourage "exploration". This is not true, the map is completely 100% revealed to you from the start.
What fun is there in entering an enchanted forest when I can see on the map Im about to enter an enchanted forest? If the map wasn't fully 100% revealed to you, exploration in this game WOULD be fun. But its not. I can see im about to enter a lava lake. I can see im about to enter an arena. I can see that im about to happen upon a mages tower. The exploration in this game just doesnt exist. The map is brilliantly detailed, Im sure Wollay spent ages on it... and its amazing, but its terrible for exploration when I can see everything I need to do. There IS no exploration. If Wollay wants to keep it in... Fine, but it doesn't encourage exploration and the region lock means little to no progress is made zone to zone. atleast make + items more clear. The amount of times I've vendored a + item that couldve been very useful is quite embarrasing.

-The leveling up system is... frankly a joke. I spent hours to get an artifact and what meaningful progression do I get? Light radius? Swim speed? great... Now I can get a boat/hanglider 3 seconds faster... Great. Or now I can see a bit further when I enter a dark building. The leveling system in RPGs is pretty consistent because it just works . If companies with millions of dollars and hundreds of RPG titles to their names dont do it, then Indie developers shouldnt do it. This is a version of reinventing the wheel that turns the wheel into a square.

-Completionists nightmare. I dont know how much progress Ive done per zone, running around and talking to each NPC to see if there is anything I havent done is not enjoyable, especially when half the time they just say "you have well made gloves". A progress bar, or an inn with all the quests in the city, or a magical fairy that tells you where to go, I dont care, I just want something so that I can see my progress.

Thats pretty much all I can be bothered to say right now. Alot of people have done more in depth reviews than me, go check them out if you still wish to buy this. There are alot of sparks of something that could've been great. But its just meh. I feel no meaningful progress is made zone to zone. I feel no need to explore a completed map. I feel no need to fight mobs which are unbalanced and have to run for 10 minutes to get back to where I was. Im sure there are many hundreds of people who love this version more than the alpha, however the majority of people ive talked to dislike this version. I aslong as many others dont feel any need to bury hundreds of hours into this game like the alpha. If you guys can get your hands on the alpha, play that. The beta is unfortunately not something I can recommend.

Sidenote - I heard some talented modders are trying to fix the current issue in the game, If i hear of any I like I will update this review with them. I've allowed comments if anyone has any questions about this game or anything.
Ive also checked out Veloren which seems to be a kind of Open access cube world inspired game and it looks pretty good.

Early Access Review
Perfect translation from 2D to 3D, extremely fun and unforgiving at the higher levels.

Prepare to die, alot.

I Recommend the crowdfunder for higher levels, once you get past stage 5 money drops like candy and the damage boost you get from the crowdfunder is insane.
