People keep comparing this game to Harvest Moon. I have not played that game, so this review will be "blind," so to speak.

This has probably been one of my biggest indie timesinks since Rimworld and Factorio (Pre-Steam Release.) On the surface, you have extremely well done pixel sprites and low-res portraits/environment. Animations are smooth, controls are solid. Beautiful music for areas within weather events within seasons (or deliberate lack thereof.) When you begin actual gameplay, the instructions are informative and unobstructive. Most importantly, it does not hold your hand, leaving you to think for yourself. A blessing in games these days, this lets you experiment and discover all the aspects of the game. Finding your initial "tutorial" done, you head into town, where you find the townsfolk milling about their business. Each one has their own schedule and personality, likes and dislikes. Speaking to them, giving gifts, and doing tasks for them can begin a two way friendship, with them helping you as you help them. If you wish to go further, a number of these people are single, and marriage is a definite possibility. Weeks pass, events happen, you witness potential drama or odd situations as you happen across them. Seasons pass, your skills grow, holidays go by, and your bank account grows. Ultimately, with hard work and determination you could be a unifying force that helps the town regain its lost glory. Oh, and I suppose you could go that "other" route, if you're cold and heartless, eyes set only on cash. Profit numbs the feeling?

I suppose this is the part where I discuss anything bad. Well for starters, things can get a bit tedious. Crops and livestock must be tended to each day. Thankfully this is mitigated to an extent by things such as water sprinklers and auto-feeders. However you must harvest everything yourself, by hand. A spouse can and will assist you in these matters, but again, that is something that happens later in the game (unless you focus yourself entirely.) The combat aspect is a little opaque on a couple statistics, namely "defense" and "immunity." While the first seems fairly straightforward (it's not,) the second doesn't explain itself at all. User interface can be a bit odd at times, namely when you are interacting with a storage chest. You cannot click and move an item to a specific spot. Clicks switch the item from your inventory, directly to the first available slot in the chest, and vice versa. "Hitboxes" for clicking on animals could be more finely tuned, as you try to interact with an animal, and another that is directly next to it will be clicked instead.

Farming simulator? Yes. With more things to do than farming? Yes. Deeper than mud pudddle environment? Yes. Sense of accomplishment? Yes. Buy the game? Yes.
