I gamed something like 7,000 hours in my life (more or less I don't really know) and at 34 years old I can tell you I haven't got anything out of it. Not an employable skill, a friend, or anything. On the contrary, they were not only a waste of my time, they were detrimental to my health, both mentally and physically and a huge distraction from the important things in my life.

There is zero growth in gaming. You don't grow in experience in anything viable. Other hobbies such as guitar, woodwork, sports, running, rock climbing, anything not gaming really, give you skills that you can use in the real world. Values that can follow you. Gaming doesn't.
