Holy crap, Supergiant Games really outdid themselves with this one. I was a huge Bastion fanboy from the get-go due to its unique atmosphere and its fusion of gameplay mechanics and story flavor. Combined with the fact that Supergiant is a tiny studio holding its weight against the massive giants in the industry, I was eagerly rooting for Transistor. It completely exceeded my expectations and is hands down my favorite game of all time. The gameplay itself is nuanced and is built off of one of the most interesting upgrade systems I've seen to date; instead of upgrading stats, you unlock functions that can be used as an active ability, a modifier to another active, or as a constant passive boost. This leads to an absurd number of combinations, each of which have value in different situations. The story itself is jam-packed with feels and left hooks. I won't give too much away, but suffice to say it definitely turns the standard "see antagonist group, fight antagonists one by one" formula way on its head. Darren Korb (the audio director at Supergiant) definitely upped his game on this one, so I highly recommend picking up the OST along with it. Can't recommend this game enough.
