This is how you do a Star Wars game! 👏🏻

Gorgeous graphics, fun gameplay, fun combat, fun parkour, and ADORABLE BD-1. I struggled with a lot of the puzzles at times but once you get the hang of it, it definitely gets easier. NPC's and characters can look a bit static/robotic at times, but nothing too crazy and there can be a few clunky movements here and there, but eh.

And the best part? This game ACTUALLY RUNS SMOOTHLY! I was so excited to play Jedi: Survivor afterwards, but it's completely unoptimized and literally can't run it without stuttering/lagging/crashing.

So in short, absolutely recommend this game - but not Jedi: Survivor at this point in time. Hope they fix it. 🫤

I loved it!

GIVE ME A BD-1 IMMEDIATELY!

I LOVED the first game and I was so excited to play this one, but man... what an unoptimized mess.

Constant stuttering, tried installing some optimization mods that helped a little but then ended up crashing a bunch. Tried without, keeps crashing too. (I have a 4070 SUPER with Intel i7) The game is just constantly lagging & crashing to the point of making it unplayable.

I'm gonna try and find a work-around because I so badly wanna play, but man, this sucks and shouldn't need mods to fix it. Massively disapointed.

Early Access Review
Lonnngg review ahead 🥴

Does the game have a lot of bugs right now? Yes. Are the servers struggling because there's literally over 1 Million+ people in the queue trying to play? Yes. But news flash, that happens with games that have literally JUST released a few hours ago. People review bombing this game when it's literally a few hours old without giving it a chance to improve are wild.

Things I like so far:

  • The skating mechanic it's self is actually really fun, I love the street skating in this game. It feels smooth, it's easy to do once you get the hang of it (especially if you played Skate games before). It's generally just really fun to whack some music on in the background and skate around and explore.

  • There's a lot of good places to skate and lot's of open areas that you can place items/ramps/rails. I just wish there was more variety and down-hill/faster areas where you can pick up crazy speeds like the mega park in Skate 3. But they have added that there's gonna be more skate-able areas in the future in the road map, so.

  • The parkour is actually a really handy way to get around. The whole climbing buildings, swan diving off, flying through the air like a mad man and splattering to the ground is fun (it would be funnier with broken bones). Sure, it looks a little goofy when you someone literally rolling around or sliding around on their stomach but it's funny. I really like that you can climb the buildings and get insane height for tricks, etc.

  • Love that you can place ramps, rails, etc on the fly with the quick editor. You can literally build an entire course of your own and bridge over to places you wouldn't be able to go otherwise, making for some unique trails & fun.

  • It's literally free.

  • The challenges seem fun (from the ones I've done so far), there's loads to play and they're refreshing daily. Ranging from easy to pro. Which, in my case, can be a little challenging indeed. But, might vary depending on your skill level. But I can imagine further into the game they might become a little repetitive.

  • Despite you having to spend money for "better" cosmetics, it doesn't really shove it in your face like some other EA games. And you can still get cosmetics with in-game points if you don't want to spend money. It honestly just pops up when you enter the cosmetic shop that you can buy items with real world money. As of right now, there's no constant annoying pop ups & stuff asking you to buy stuff and I HOPE it stays that way.

  • There's a LOT of customisation settings you can change. Whether it's if you want to turn tricks on and off, or if you want assisting whilst skating or not, and so much more.

  • You can literally play realistic or unrealistic. Whether you wanna skate around like "normal", or goof around and jump off buildings and roll around and belly flop everywhere - you can.

  • You don't have to buy anything to play this game. If you literally just wanna skate around, do the challenges, do the tricks, do everything in this game - you can. You literally don't have to spend a single penny.

    Things that I don't like/could be improved:

  • If you want to customise your character with 'branded' clothing, you have to spend real money. But are we surprised? It's EA. HOWEVER, you can still get free items from the store by earning points from challenges & opening loot boxes (it's randomised).

  • A pretty unfortunate one, there's no Hall of Meat, or S.K.A.T.E mode or just being able to crunch your bones when falling from high places. 😭

  • There's no story mode. Which, I do feel like could be a fun implementation in the future.

  • You can't grab onto the back of cars anymore which you could in previous versions of the game.

  • The world does feel a bit... empty, in terms of NPC's and vehicles. Although in popular areas you will find quite a few other players messing around/skating. And the world does feel "too clean", for a city that's supposedly overrun by skaters, there's no scuff marks on things, no damage from skateboards scraping on things, etc, and there's no scratch/damage marks on your skateboard.

  • There's no day/night cycle or weather system, which does add to the world not feeling that lively.

  • The replay editor definitely needs improvements, but they're already working on that (in the road map).

  • Despite them not shoving the fact that you can buy stuff in your face every five minutes, it does feel like they prioritised making items/emotes you can buy with real world money look far more detailed/fleshed out compared to the items you can get for free with in-game points. Also, the items being in mystery boxes are kinda annoying if you're someone who wants specific items. But, I get it - they want you to keep playing and grinding to get the items you want.

  • It's online only. There's no offline mode, which is kind of disappointing. Sometimes you just wanna vibe on your own. And if there's an instance where the game does fail and they shut the servers, that's it. Or if you wanna travel somewhere and play it without internet, you can't.

  • The in-game robot narrator thing can get a bit annoying when she comments on your every move after a while BUT you can turn it off in the settings.

TLDR; Overall, the game's quite obviously aiming for a PG audience instead of the nitty gritty way the Skate games used to be. Language is censored, the graphics are very cartoony (not that I care about it) and it's vastly different from the other games we've had in the past. It does feel like they could've kept it in the vault a little longer and worked on some more stuff before releasing early access, but there's always room for change. The skating is fun and smooth. If you're someone who wants to play the game purely just to skate around on, a little bit of nostalgia, do challenges and vibe and doesn't care much about the aesthetic or customising your character much - this is the game for you. It's genuinely just fun to skate around and explore.

All in all, it's early access - things will change and fluctuate. They're already planning to add new things and to change stuff, so it could go in any direction. End of the day, it's up to the devs as to whether they'll listen to people and keep the game alive or not. However, I am looking forward to what they're going to do in the future with this game.
