Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG, but the emphasis is almost entirely on action, with little to no real RPG elements. The first two hours were a lot of fun—new enemies, spells, and mechanics were introduced every 15 minutes. Exploring both Hogwarts and the world around it gave a strong first impression.

However, that feeling quickly faded. By the time I finished the game, my reaction was Finally, it's over, but at the same time, Wait, is this really it?

None of your choices impact the main story or have any real consequences. Some side quests alter which spells you can unlock based on your responses, but that’s about it. Every character feels like they can be gaslit into anything. Someone could have run over an entire family in a car accident and then asked if what they did was wrong—and simply by responding, No, you couldn’t help it, they walked in front of the car, they would just accept it and move on without question.

The developers seem to think the player has the attention span of a toddler who just learned to walk. The game features long, well-written cutscenes—sometimes up to 15 minutes—where the story unfolds naturally without outright telling you what’s happening. These moments effectively set up what needs to be done.

But immediately after, you are always sent to talk to Professor Fig, who then sums up everything you just saw in one or two sentences. Once you notice this pattern, it feels like the developers assume the player has the focus of a child with ADHD who has run out of Adderall for the week.

Combat starts off strong, with a variety of new enemies, but for some reason, this stops after just 30 minutes. From that point on, you fight the same goblins, trolls, and Ashwinders over and over again. Nothing changes. You rarely encounter new bosses or any unique enemy types.

I honestly expected to at least fight a Basilisk, a Nazgul-like creature, or something equally memorable. But no. I played through the entire game, expecting the grand reveal or final boss to bring some of the magic and spectacle the movies delivered—but that moment never came. Instead, the final boss is a lackluster damage sponge with a grand total of three attacks. And once you defeat it, you’re treated to a four-minute cutscene, followed by a generic “Congratulations on completing Hogwarts Legacy!” message.

The only part of the game with an engaging narrative or any sense of moral dilemma was Sebastian’s storyline involving his sister. Everything else felt like a dull, non-magical experience, as if it had been written by a nine-year-old who just watched the trailers for the Harry Potter movies and then tried to piece a story together.
