The first few days of the game were stellar. A few maps that were actually possible, likely because the developers bothered to check the maps and tweaked the terrain where needed. Fun moments with a friend are all you need for this game to shine, and the many obstacles, physics, items and other interactions make it very hard to dislike the game.

After that, things quickly turned south to the point where you are more likely to have an impossible map on a day than one that's actually possible (other than getting lucky on some tools to skip impossible sections).
The developers clearly gave up on checking the generated maps at some point, leaving it completely to luck whether a day is actually possible or not. Worst part is, you often don't find out until investing an hour or more into a run.

Today, the Mesa update released with a new biome replacing the Tundra. It has an invisible ceiling spanning across the entire Mesa cliff about 80% towards the top. Such a bug makes it not impossible through unchecked RNG (which is already bad enough and makes the game not enjoyable post-launch past the fun random moments with friends) but straight out impossible due to incompetence and ignorance on the developers part. I'm sure it will get fixed hastily, but after already having a bad time last week with bad generation and only giving it another shot because surely the map on the day of an update would be checked by the developers.. I'm done with this game.

Early Access Review
I've recently upgraded to a 9800X3D and 9070 XT. Basically about as good as you're going to get on an AMD system.

Upscaling & Frame generation disabled. TAA enabled (to prevent texture flickering on absolutely everything).
Straight out of the opening building into the world.

1080p
Preset: Very low / FPS: 105-125 / CPU 24% / GPU 100%
Preset: Medium / FPS: 70-80 / CPU 23% / GPU 100%
Preset: Epic / FPS: 40-50 / CPU 21% / GPU 100%

1440p
Preset: Very low / FPS: 75-80 / CPU 21% / GPU 100%
Preset: Medium / FPS: 45-55 / CPU 21% / GPU 100%
Preset: Epic / FPS: 30-40 / CPU 19% / GPU 100%

I don't see how most people are going to run this game. FSR and frame generation helps the performance (by 50-100%), but making the game look far worse with visible dithering on most textures including the character model and foliage.

Edit: with the patch on April 3rd Landfall has seemingly made the game quite a lot easier with reduced obstacles, more shops, lower shop prices and the ability to reroll shop items. This has made the underlying issues I described far less common and painful. To some the game may be too easy now as the changes are quite radical, though the developers have promised they're working on something "really hard" for those that are interested.

Although I personally don't think the difficulty was the greatest concern, since the patch has inadvertently addressed the main problems I had with the game I am changing my review to positive.
---

The gameplay feels great, though the random terrain and lack of items can make or break this game.

Having various runs end early because randomly generated objects force you to take turns that slow you down enough to get caught means your progression is often hindered until you get a better seed. Is a large object forcing you to go around it left or right? You better hope there's not a bend in the level behind it because you might fall behind to the point of no recovery (disclaimer: some unlockable abilities such as the cowl especially suffer from this, other abilities less so).

In a run where you get a decent boost-generating item this may not be the biggest of problems, but since that is also left to chance it makes it all the more frustrating. Shard 6 with the cowl ability turned from near-impossible on my first 2 attempts to extremely easy simply by getting 10-20% haste through random items. Not because I played "better".

With shards (runs) having about 15-20 levels that make every run take quite a while, it's pretty easy to lose interest in the game after one random level screws you over in this way halfway through your run. This is especially true since you get drastically reduced rogue-lite progression currency when you don't fully clear a shard. Even failing on the boss after 18 levels means you'll get around 150-200 currency compared to 500-600 for a full run. With upgrades quickly rising in cost to 1000-2000 each, your best bet of getting "stronger" is farming previous shards to slowly unlock stat upgrades.

With some polish to the terrain generation this game becomes very easy to recommend. The core is there. As of right now, I don't think I'm going to commit to finishing the game and may revisit it later.

PS. yes, I know you can manually set a seed, so perhaps waiting for a "challenging but fair" list of seeds is the best way to enjoy the game. Though I don't feel like 'learning' a seed is the way to go about it.

Great game. Pleasantly surprised by depth and length of the story. Plenty of choices when it comes to team composition and skills. Worthwhile side quests. As the game progresses the difficulty of encounters declines but continues to be challenging enough to remain tactical. Managing gear upgrades (crystals in particular) gets annoying fast, should be considered as end-game.

I knew it wasn't going to run well but.. to run this poorly is a disgrace. Can't even hit stable 60fps on the LOWEST settings combined with ultra performance DLSS on a RTX 2080 and Ryzen 3700X.

Had a good time playing this game. The mining doesn't have a lot of depth to it and can feel repetitive pretty quick.

Could be good. But instead the co-op is a broken mess and there doesn't seem to be any balancing to both the enemies health/damage and your own weapons/abilities. Only finished it because I had absolutely nothing better to do with my time.
