A solid super metroid spiritual successor. A bit short and easy but hey, it's free.

A very well made RPG with captivating plot, good writing and very unusual setting. Really well made, it punches above it's double-A status and looks almost on par with triple-A titles. Combat is a bit simplistic but still serviceable. This can be forgiven though, as it's certainly not the main focus of the game though, story and characters are. Thaumaturge is not Disco Elysium, but it's certainly one of the "thinking man's RPGs" which it inspired.

For best results, set voiceover to Polish, you will not be disappointed.

Surprisingly good for what it is. Looks like there's no microtransactions too, at least on PC.

Amazingly deep and well-written CRPG with immeasurable amount of meaningful choices with consequences that will shape the game world. A game that you can lose yourself in, and spend dozens and dozens of hours just to feel like you're still scratching the surface of what this game have to offer. In-game drawn art and voice acting are top notch and really make characters feel alive.

On the negative side, RPG system(P&P Rogue Trader) is not the easiest one to wrap your head around and may be too convoluted at times. Game also starts bit slow(in many ways due to how RPG system works) so combat may feel shallow until you'll gain a solid amount of levels, but then it will really shine with tons of tactical options, interesting skill interactions and party members which feel powerful. Finally, graphics, while not bad, are certainly retro-styled and may not be for everyone.

From a 40k fan perspective, it's a real treat, a chance to peek at Imperium at a ground-level with everything being as lore-accurate as it gets.

And from a newcomer perspective, it's surprisingly easy to get accustomed to as every 40k-specific term and word has an in-game popup that explains it in simple yet accurate terms.

An easy recommendation to any CRPG or 40k fan!

It's a Stalker game through and through. Yes, including the janky state on launch. This should've been a mixed review, I guess, as there are still technical issues, including half-broken key rebinding. Some actions cannot be rebound without editing the config file and yet more cannot be rebound at all. But the core is there and the most glaring issues are being addressed, so I'll wait and see if devs' promise of continuous support and improvement will hold up.

Just remember, if you have low tolerance for bugs, give this one some time for fixes to be released and mods to be made before buying.

Review is actual as of 10/10/24(EA release).

Definitely one of the unique games I played in recent years. I'm intrigued by the world, bizarre and hostile yet full of wonder, definitely feeling some reminiscence to Trials of Fire. Made in Abyss also comes to mind, especially with young hunters having no choice but face monstrosities to help their tribe survive.

Art is spot on too, stylish and slightly unnerving, it creates a perfect visual dissonance between adolescent-looking hunters and their monstrous prey, a perfect match to the theme of losing the innocence, both figuratively and literally, while fighting to survive in a hostile world.

Last, but not least, gameplay. Main loop is already really addictive, combat feels fluid and intuitive, attacks are satisfying and different weapons feel fun to use, each with it's own attack pattern. Hunt preparation and journey are also quite nice, I just hope there will be enough variety, esp for the journey, something that further development will keep adding.
