The first Beat Hazard had finite ships and finite shadow misions at the base game and then it branched into workshop. This game gives you unlockable ships with each first succesful clear on any song. This translates to a continuous amounts of ships coming to you as you clear songs, plus each ship has 4 shadow missions to complete.

In addition, the first game lacked competitiveness. Yeah you had leaderboards, but they werent that interesting in the first place. Now, you have ONLINE SCORING FOR EACH SONG! this means that you can play, get yourself in the ranking, then grind to pass other players and reach top 1. In addition, add some encouragement (or salt) by putting a comentary that will apper at the load up once you reach first place.

Another feature that makes Beat Hazard 2 more competitive than the first release are challenges. Daily challenges will appear every single day with a song, a ship type, and restrictions to earn a cool-looking elite ship if you manage to be amongs the top 5 players when the challenge ends. again more ships to get and more shadow missions to complete. Lightning challenges are similar to daily challenges but these ones only last for 4 hours, so you have to keep an eye out for them.

In terms of difficulty, the game offers several of them, from easy peasy lemon squeazy to "ZEN" aka chaos. In addition, the previous game 200% visual effects now scaled up to 300% and it boosts your multiplier by +20. I don't know about you, but a +20 multiplier in exchange of the ability to see seems fair to me.

The game also now offers the option to play music from services like spotify and youtube through a feature called "open mic" this is also the thing that makes challenges available since it will give all the players the same version of the song.

The game also features achievements more or less as grindy as the previous game and trading cards if that is your jam.

Overall the game is pretty nice. A solid purchase for those who like rithym games with some shooting and blinding effects. I would tell you to buy it full price, but you are probably going to wait for a sale, aren't you?
