If it was a game pretending to be finished, I would have asked for a refund, but since it's clearly an early access that shows some serious potential, I'm still hoping it will improve eventually. I just can't recommend it as is.

I still have high hope for that game, it looks like it might become my dream building house game (after 3ds Max, Blender and The Sims of course), but I can’t enjoy the experience in its current state just yet.

Here are my observations about the difficulties I encountered, hope it will helps!

Object positioning problem: Countertop clipping is very difficult. Trying to put it pixel perfect is a pain. Using shift to clip to grid doesn’t make them clip at the right spot to fit together.

Texture assignment problem: Lot of objects come in multiple colours, like a white hanging cabinet with black handles for instance, but when you try to change the colours individually, the whole object just switch into one single colour, losing the handle different colour. Lot of objects seems to be afflicted with that annoying bug. (I could take the time to make a list, if they promise to solve the issue lol)

Texture scale inconsistency: Some textures seems to oddly scale depending on what object we use them. For instance on certain counter top when we use marble the texture is ok on some, but so zoomed out on other model that it just applies as a solid colour (which is probably the texture map stretched too much) and we lose all details of marble veins. Same for some rugs where the same fabric pattern can be tiny or all stretched out and pixelized as hell depending on which rug we apply it to. Even when the result isn’t catastrophic it’s still weird to have the pattern not at the same scale when you are trying to have matching rugs of different size in the same room or matching fabrics on different sofas, chairs or cushions. (Note: I run the game graphics at maximum)

The sets for counter are in my opinion incomplete. Each model should at least have: 1 corner part, 1 left end, 1 right end, 2 variations of middle part (the same for fitting hanging cabinet), and having separate sink we could put on any counter top would be nice too. Now since not all of them have corner or even much varying parts at all, we are very limited. As soon as we make bigger kitchen layout it looks weird. Also each model aren’t the same height, they weirdly vary of a few pixel in height, so trying to be creative to cover the lack of options and mixing them up is impossible, which is a shame since we are technically supposed to be able to pick our own material to make them fit. Also the size of the counters and the size of the floor tiles aren't fitting together, so there's often a gap between the wall and counter when you try to make them fit into an enclosure.

The roof system is disappointing. We have 3 rigid different slope angle. That’s it. The more blocks you put, the higher the roof gets. No way that I know of to change the global angle manually.

It would be nice to have an handle to lower the general roof slope to the angle we desire. (A bit like in the sims) With the current system, adios most mid century style house, you can’t achieve that kind of low roof unless you do a tiny tiny house to try to keep the roof small. Which is sad cause it’s my favorite house aesthetic of all time and a very popular one too I think!

Bug while flying over roofed house In flying mode, we can’t fly over the house once it has a roof? I could do it before installing the roof, after that it seems like there’s some sort of invisible force preventing us from being directly over the house. It was hard to paint the roof trims because of that.

Multiple game crashes In 7 hours play the game crashed unexpectedly 5 times. Most time was when I used ctrl+Z too quickly it seemed.

Other suggestions:
  • would be nice to be able to use room planning directly onto the plot planning sketch, without having to build the actual foundation first.

  • Also to be able to select an area and delete all the foundation or even some house section one shot, instead of one single block piece at a time would be nice.

  • Being able to build custom rectangular pool would be nice too, instead of selecting through a list of premade objects.

I can't wait to see the final version of the game some day!

This game was even more awesome than what I was expecting!

The environments are visually stunning and very detailed, the characters are also pretty nice and interesting both visually and through their dialogue/backstory. There are both insightful and funny quotes told by characters to keep you entertained.

The cat feels real, both by his gait, little moves and the action you can do with him.

The whole story of the game is creative and original, without having peeked at any trailers before hand, because I wanted to keep the surprise, I was indeed very surprised with how the story went. That's not exactly how I pictured a story about a stray cat to goes. I was very pleased with how it turned out!

The controls are easy to learn and the mechanics to jump from platform to platform is clumsy proof, you can't fall down by accident, so you can focus on solving the puzzle or escaping the enemy without any worry about missing a move because of a lack of dexterity. Which was much appreciated.

The only cons I found in this game is that once you finish a section, you can't go back to an ulterior savepoint, you can only restart a whole chapter, so if you miss a side quest and realize it only after completing the main one, you can't really go back a little to do it, you have to redo a pretty big chunk of the story. But it's only a minor irritant, I will probably replay the whole thing again just for fun anyways, so no big deal!

If you are ok with just kind of spectating the whole thing you might enjoy this game, but if you want to actually play a game, with some sort of challenge, you will likely be disappointed with this one.

Visually stunning, nice soundtrack, great metaphor with overcoming depression and/or grief. It demonstrate that those healing process aren't necessarily always straightforward, but that it eventually get better if you keep going. Artistically it's a masterpiece, but in my opinion this should have been a short movie, not a game. There's nothing in the gameplay that make us feel like we are actually doing something. You just push the controller to the right or left and wait, wait, wait, then jump once in a while, solve a too easy puzzle that doesn't need much thinking. There's no challenge, it's pretty long, repetitive and rather boring.

Incredibly easy and short, but it's free so I cannot complain.
The small amount of time I spent on it was a good one!

Little Nightmare is a pretty nice game that I will remember for a long time!

There's a fair amount of jumpscares, breathtaking sneaking mission, high anxiety chase, puzzle thinking and disgust with a sprinkle of cuteness.

The game design and puzzles are well thoughts. The aesthetic is rich in details, very creepy but also cute. The lights, music and sounds all contribute coherently to the suspense and keep your anxiety level just high enough to fear for your life while still enjoying the game. The environment is also well built in terms of level design, it's generally clear enough where you have to go and what you can or can't do. I liked how they prevent us from dragging objects from different area with unregular planks on the floor. The message was clear without compromising the visual and the immersion. The little cone head guys were also useful to hints us about the direction to go in certain darker zone.

I purchased all the DLC, I recommend the 1 & 2, but not the 3rd:
  • 1-The Depths: The water adds a nice touch of anxiety into the game and a new twist to the puzzles.
  • 2-The Hideaway: You have to cooperate with the cone head creatures in order to complete most of the puzzles which adds some interesting novelty.
  • 3-The Residence: Halting bug preventing players to finished the game. This issue was present in 2018 and is still existing at the time of this review. I have written a more complete review about this problem.

That 3rd DLC was very nice, nearly perfect, except that I wasn't able to finished it due to an halting bug. Wich is, to my sense, a major irritant.

Without that defect, I would have recommended the game 1000%. I don't mind minors bugs, but when it screw your ability to finished a game, it's difficult to ignore.

*SPOILERS*

Nearing the end of the game, after I've found and placed the 3 statues, the first time I arrived at the moment where the Geisha scare us, the door at our right got opened as it supposed to. A while after that I ran outside of that zone, where I unfortunately died and had to restart from the last save point. I believe that's what created the bug. When I came back to the Geisha, she did the same animation, except this time the door stayed closed with no way to opened it. I walked back all the way to the main hall and found an other weird thing: the key I used a while ago was on the floor + the padlock still locked, which I found odd because I opened this door earlier in the game and had finished everything that was behind it (it was indeed a necessary step to get the last statue, so it definetely shouldn't be all locked up anymore). Still, I opened it again to see what would happened and the door behind it was abnormally closed too. As if the progess of the game wasn't in sync with the save point data or something. That's when I understood that my save file was now an unsalvageable loop hole cluster fu-ck.

*END OF SPOILERS*

It's like they didn't planed the fact that people could go back to previous rooms, die or restart to the last save point during this part of the game. I saw other people stuck at the exact same place on Steam discussion and also on Reddit. Some comments are from a few months ago but there are also some people complaining about this exact same issue in older posts from 2018. I'm very sad and disappointed that they didn't corrected the situation after so many years. Especially since it's an auto-saving game, so when you encounter a bug like this, your game is just screwed.

Now I'm kind of afraid to buy the second game, but not because the monsters...

I would like a fix...

Nice little puzzle game!

The first campaign is free, the second one is offered at a very low price.

I only played the free one yet, which contains a great amount of levels.

You also can build your own maps with the editor and play other user maps online. Which was a total surprise! I thought that this feature would have been monetized, but nope! Those developpers are very generous in what they decided to include in the freebie.

I would say: try it, you don't have anything to lose!

Overcooked 2 is an excellent cooperative game if you like to manage tasks in total chaos!

Multiplayer is perfect to share a good laugh with your friends and has a pretty high replayable value, even if the base game is a little bit short to my opinion. That's why I recently bought the Season Pass and the Surf 'n' Turf DLC, which I haven't finished yet, but those seem to be promising in terms of adding some novelty and length to the game.

Singleplayer is a little bit more challenging, but totally doable. It just needs some adaptation at the beginning to get use to the concept of controlling 2 characters at the same time, but once you get the twist, it becomes more fluid and the experience is totally worth it.

I've found that few levels were slightly annoying when playing alone, but most of them were awesome. (I personnaly hate when there are firebombs eveywhere, too much treadmills and platforms that move excessively.) In multiplayer those were definitely less anoying though.

I finished every levels of the story and all Kevin's secret maps with 3 stars (both with friends and on my own) I didn't tried the 4 stars redo challenge yet, but I noticed that many of the previous scores were pretty close to it, I'm far from being a hardcore gamer, so you probably can do it!)
