It's hard to describe the simple pleasure this game gives me. The music and ambiance is perfect. It's visually satisfying. And there's certainly challenge to the game. I've always enjoyed games that build characters through the use of skills/powers/actions, rather than the nebulous nature of "leveling up."

In the end, though, I think what really has me putting in more hours than I can to admit is the creative outlet that comes with building structures and landscaping. Spiral towers, Horizon reaching Great Walls. Decorative Taverns. Elevated Towns. Grand Palaces. Sea Spanning Bridges. I've found myself thinking I'll play just half an hour, adding or shaping or creating something that has been dancing around in my imagination only to find myself checking the clock 3 hours later and wondering how real time seems to turn as fast as game time some days.

It's not for everyone, to say the least, but if you enjoy the challenge of starting with nothing and crafting everything you need to survive while also offering an addictive outlet for the architect in you, I can't recommend Valheim enough.

Oh, yeah, for all your flat-earthers, you can finally sail off the edge of the world and die. Enjoy!
