They've failed to meet promises and STILL the game, like other modern Worms titles, is missing significant amounts of content and mod capability from previous titles.

The game has a very nice graphics and audio design but falls short in many places where other Worms games just do it better.

It's a really solid mini-golf type game. Lots of extra settings and even a decent level editor. Very fun with friends, though I'd stay away unless you have a party to go in with.

Worst part is no turn-based mode in multiplayer? You'd think this would be a key feature, but no.

Terrible game, I am honestly confused at the "Positive" reviews, most of which don't dive into anything other than "it's good and I've played it for 4000 hours!" Confusing.

The old Total War playerbase is long dead. Including me. Gone are the days to expect quality battles or simple unit collision. God forbid we shakeup from our new, terrible engine. God forbid we fix a game that was a crapshow on release.

For the TL;DR, I would say 3/10 in 2019. It's not 1/10-tier bad, but it's not at all enjoyable for multiple reasons.

Here we go.

I played this game on release in 2013 in singleplayer and on co-op and it was terrible. I don't think that can be discussed or argued - most agree that the release was bug-prone, issue-prone, and generally bad. It was an insanely rushed release and to top it off it had downloadable content off the gate, chipping at the 300 lovers' SPARTAN WARRIORS that everyone came in unison over. That was just a warning for DLC spam to come.

I played it again around a year later (2014) albeit solo and was unable to get past around 50 turns due to general boredom and lack of difficulty. Though they ironed out some bugs, the game was still unfun, not at all challenging, and littered with technical problems.

Six years past release I have ventured again into co-op and have dealt with multiple issues. These issues range almost equally similar to years ago yet are somehow different? The same level of disappointment is present, and I still regret this purchase. Here, below, is a somewhat organized list of complaints, and below that I will list positives. You're going to see "six years later" a lot, because most of this is the exact same level of terrible.

-NO BORDERLESS WINDOWED, AND THIS IS STILL IN RECENT RELEASES?
-Alternate to what positive reviews say, no, playing different factions does not feel incredibly unique. The "Total War Playstyle" is still heavily rampant and you will almost always use the same tactics to beat the same easy enemy. The only change is their pretty uniforms and colors, as well as map location.
-Still has the same horrible diplomacy. There is no knowing why a faction will agree or disagree with your offers, no accurate numbers. Diplomacy has not changed at all since release as far as I can tell. Perhaps numbers tweaking.
-Agents are underwhelming. Agents are unfun to manage.
-Management of characters and armies for their little buffs feels almost pointless, like it never has an impact in game. Positive listed below, however - they did update some portions of this to at least make it more decent.
-Management of settlements is still just as unfulfilling as six years ago. This has been a problem for multiple TWs, however.
-Extremely underwhelming A.I. to the point of easy victory. Legendary only changes this difficulty due to not being able to see the minimap and genuine stat or performance cheating. The A.I. is still terrible six years later.
-Speaking of terrible A.I. the campaign map A.I. is still horrible! The A.I. in Shogun 2 was significantly more effective at creating a genuine threat and knew how to ruin your economy.
-Terrible looking battles and accordion-smashing units that phase and warp all over. At least there's less kill animations than there used to be, but it's still a great show of how NOT to use the new engine comparing to Shogun 2 or Napoleon, which both handled it decently by actual polish and care.
-GNOME MEN - characters somehow look less human than Empire or earlier compared to Rome 1.
-Speaking of graphics, the game has slightly improved (I mention that before) visually, but units still look terrible and everything looks like it's been hit with severe anti-saturation. Looks surprisingly worse than Shogun 2, especially in night and rain.
-Unfun battles and a battlespace that makes it a chore to chase down half-routed units. The battlespace can never be fixed, but goodness me the A.I. makes battles unfun to even bother loading into. Enjoy winning easily in the first 10 minutes and spending the next 10 chasing down (or waiting to be "chased down" by) stray units.
-Cavalry feels almost worthless except to counter the above negative. Cavalry charges look terrible and accordion-smash into enemy lines. Cavalry hits inconsistently. Cavalry is underwhelming even when it succeeds. Cavalry has terrible kill animations. I could go on.
-Problems with cavalry were fixed in Shogun 2 due to having animations of soldiers being pushed out of the way. These aren't here (or aren't used properly?) and thus cavalry has ZERO weight.
-Speaking of the above, most siege weapons feel unfulfilling and worthless.
-My friend and I played NINE TURNS in campaign and had desync twice. Twice. How is this still an issue?
-Co-op desync in loading screens... This only happened once, though. By this I mean the "ghost realm" where each player sees the other player as loading, and the timer doesn't go down. This should never be a problem - in hundreds of hours of co-op in Shogun 2 I've had this happen just once.
-You can disable the voice of the terrible announcer in the upper left, or even just put him on text, but you can't get rid of the video that shows up with his low quality in-game render. Why? Stop blocking part of my screen.
-Horrific unit cards that all look exactly the same.
-Horrific GUI that doesn't tell you the information you want to know. I will take a step down and say they have improved it since release.
-"The men are wavering!"-tier bad voice acting. I will give them some props for having random custom chants and battle cries before actually hitting the enemy.
-Still using kill animations. Mentioned this before, I just feel this needs to be addressed.
-Just as a note, there are plenty of other issues I could likely list if I put my time into it, but at nearly 10 minutes into writing this review I will stop here to not waste any more time on this garbage.

+-Customization of armies. Somewhat. CA couldn't balance A.I. to use armies without a leader because they would make suicide stacks, so instead they punish the player by forcing you to retain a general in an army. All of the customization and bonus options are hardly felt or make it far too easy to out-do the A.I..
+-There's less use of terrible looking kill animations (but there's still kill animations)
+-Lighting on maps is better. Kind of. The colors are all still stale and nothing is interesting to look at, but it's better than release.
+-There's more helper icons than release.

+Uniforms look nice. If you're going to shoot loads over seeing a Roman Legion, you'll obviously enjoy this game.
+Campaign map looks very good. The custom battlescapes based on your location are high in number and you will almost never have the same-map fatigue you may have received in previous titles.
+Drawing is fun and is a significant tool upgrade compared to previous titles (for co-op).
+Fantastic new revolt system that's based off of points rather than "is a province angry?" This is honestly the best addition to the whole series coming from Rome 2 and is the best part of the otherwise lackluster campaign and building system.

Overall, 9 (NINE) turns of this was more a chore than a game, very unenjoyable and especially better in the campaign map than the battle map, which should never be the case with Total War (and especially a Total War like Rome II, which has terrible campaign options and diplomacy).

Horrible Total War, would not recommend. I would not say it's a horrible game, but as a Total War product it's a severe disappointment and revisiting it only reinforced that. It's a shame consumers can't warp back in time to experience what was a quality TW product, or at the very least quality customer service after a botched release.

The pinnacle of sandbox warfare games. Keep in mind the processor-intensive gameplay and mixed-bag PVP experience.

my first witcher title. it hooked me in early and i found it fun to twiddle around with some of the mechanics which felt more dated than the release date. i really enjoyed upgrading rolling to get around quicker.

witcher 2 is a good pickup before playing witcher 3. both respectable games and deserving of a play.

Fantastic game deserving of the "gem" title which creates an addicting gameplay loop involving macro- and micro-managing of a factory, all while creating an unsuitable environment for alien creatures who want to BTFO you.

Although it suffers from many issues that plague modern "realistic platoon-size team-based shooters", it does a better job at most mechanics than its main competitor Hell Let Loose.

Price hike is disgusting.

That being said, Shogun 2 is the last properly polished historical game from CA. Great in singleplayer and co-op, all three expansions (though ROTS is the weakest) are good on their own and there's a high ceiling for the amount of enjoyment you can squeeze out of this game.

Would definitely recommend, especially when put up against other Total War titles. Absolutely annihilated all TW titles released within the past 10 years.

CA will fail if they try to make Shogun 3. maybe CA can make some kind of comeback in the next 10-15 years. Eh.

back in 2005 i took part in the blockland beta and was enamored.

i can truly say that blockland was a big part of my younger years.

i remember purchasing it soon after it went retail, making some good friends, even calling some over the phone and talking for hours while playing -- back then there were no lucrative programs like skype or discord.

yes, gandalf, i was there while the iraq war was closing and i was building meme structures on crappy RP servers.

blockland is probably still worth a play, but is it worth a price? probably not. it's lying to rest. i recall the last time i actively played it was around 2016, and that was just making co-operative builds with one friend.

i'm hoping that brickadia can continue where blockland eventually puttered out. thanks badspot for having a significant part in my "token" list of videogames.
