A creative mix of building, planning, and now (as of the recent updates) resource gathering - Space Engineers lets you build something useful, crash it, and then spend the next 2 hours trying to fix your mistake. It's a blast the whole time; for more fun, bring some friends in and build something massive... and then crash it again.

I'm starting to see a pattern here.

StarDrive will provide a fix you've been craving all these years since MoO2. Is it the complete experience you've long for? Unfortunately, no, probably not. However, a good selection of features, and the module layout based ship creator, allow for some classic MoO style fun and enjoyment.

The original launch of the game in early access had some issues from what I've read, but StarDrive was one of those games on my "To Play" list for almost a year before finally coming around to it after the latest patch (1.15 of this writing). The core gameplay is there, but a tech tree that's lacking much depth is probably the most glaring flaw I've experienced in my playthroughs.

This lack, thankfully, can be remedied with a mod which adds much more MoO-like tech tree into the game. The current non-mod tech layout allows for a very balanced approach that was likely intended for multiplayer(which as of yet hasn't surfaced), with early ship designs still being marginally useful against even high tech ships late in the game. For fans of MoO2 and it's tech singularity that often happened late game (Psilons, anyone?), this is a mixed blessing.

As mentioned earlier, the ship creator is the main feature of the game, and the one I've had the most enjoyment from. Going in blind, you'll come up with design iteration after iteration, and love each one as much as the one before. Every module has a certain length and width that you try and shoehorn into the various ship hulls, with each race having a specific design. There's generally an overall "feel" for each race's ships (such as long, relatively narrow hulls that allow for greater head on armor layouts for Terrans, or a greater number of possible weaponry on Kulrathi), and even the actual shape of the ship's hull can have very drastic effect when combat comes to your fleets.

There is a slew of ease of use features in the game which makes play more friendly on the UI front. Unfortunately, a lack of any decent game provided documentation makes some of these a complete secret until they're stumbled upon and discovered. Definately do some searching for UI tips and tricks for this one.

The tougher AI levels allows for some challenge, but expect the game to be a fairly easy breeze until you design some better ships for the AI to utilize. The game has some of the spark of MoO, but it's not a drop-in replacement for it.

Overall, I'm in love with StarDrive for what it is, not what it was promised or wished to be. At it's core, it's engaging and enjoyable. Hopefully the next offering from Zero Sum will be full spiritual successor that we long for, but this one is better than most MoO clones that pop up now and again.

This is quite possibly one of the most entertaining, challenging, and overall crazy games I've played... ever. You run a restaurant in a office building skyscraper, and it all falls on you to make money, improve your skills and menu, and take it to the top - the fabled 5 Star rating!

Just beware - because oh too soon will you absolutely dread rush hour with demanding patrons, yet you'll love every single hectic second.
