It's a very fun game

Dr. Gordon Freeman is the main protagonist of the Half-Life series. Freeman is a theoretical physicist, forced to defend himself and the human race in a conflict against hostile aliens and other enemies after a failed experiment causes a worldwide alien invasion.

In the process, Freeman becomes an almost legendary resistance hero, eventually rising to be one of the key leaders in the war against an inter-dimensional empire.



Alyx Vance is the deuteragonist of Half-Life 2 and its Episodes and the titular protagonist of Half-Life: Alyx. A woman in her mid-twenties, she is a prominent figure in the Resistance campaign against the rule of the Combine.

Dr. Eli Vance is a former Black Mesa researcher and physicist. Decades after the failed experiment, he has become one of the key leaders in a fight against the Combine’s totalitarian rule. He wears a prosthetic leg to replace his left leg beneath the knees.

Dr. Isaac Kleiner is a scientist and one of the main characters of Half-Life 2 and its episodes. An archetypal 'absent-minded genius scientist' (although somewhat more benign), he is a prolific author of several works on teleportation and interdimensional travel, and one of the few survivors of the incident that took place in the Black Mesa Research Facility. Later on, he becomes a key (if somewhat self-conscious) leader of the Resistance against the Combine, and a prime member of the Resistance science team.

The Combine, abbreviated as CMB, and referred to in propaganda as "Our Benefactors"[2], is an immense inter-dimensional empire, comprised of a number of species either as allies or as slaves. The Combine's ultimate goal is to enslave and control the Multiverse.[3]

Following the Black Mesa Incident, and the death of the Nihilanth, the Combine invaded Earth and emerged victorious from the ensuing war against the humans in a mere seven hours. Nevertheless, humanity did not remain subjugated, and nearly twenty years later, Earth's Resistance culminated in The Uprising, and the Combine were beaten thrice in pivotal battles.

These events were spearheaded by Gordon Freeman, having been released by The G-Man from stasis. The Combine serves as the overarching antagonistic force of the overall Half-life series and is the main antagonistic force of Half-Life 2, its episodes, and Half-Life: Alyx.
