This game is certainly not as bad as people say it is. I have just completed the game alongside all side-quests in the 1.25 version. Complaints about the combat mechanics seem rather odd for any review set after the update, especially those who say that combat takes too long or is a slog, given that both Alex and Vella I found were able to output far more than 500dmg a turn. Even by simply including Rory in your party you can be near invincible.

Sure the writing can be a bit obtuse at times, but those who complain about thematic consistency couldn't have played very far into the game as such questions are directly addressed by the plot. The main complaint I find is occasional bugs I encountered with objects de-spawning or achievements not triggering.

I feel that this game is by no means perfect or a contender for GOTY, but it's fallen into the trap of being popular to dislike, and as such is the subject of far more hate than it is due. It's worth playing if you're looking for a mid-length western RPG with a soundtrack better than you would expect from such a game.
