Monster Hunter but faster.
I've been playing this series since 2010, started with Freedom Unite. One cool thing about the series is that every game feels like a different game, each one adds weapons, movesets, gameplay mechanics and monsters. the bad thing is, because the games improve over the generations playing an older generation might feel slow. MH: World changed the series a lot, it changed it so much that it feels super weird to go back to MH:3rd or Freedom Unite, yet it's still my favorite game yet.

The weapons feel like they should, fast weapons are fast, slow ones feel powerful. Each one feels super different (back in MHFU the Lance and Gunlance were practically the same). Hunting Horns are fun now and kinda OP. No more disjointed hitboxes on huge monsters.
The consumables feel less punishing to farm, which I find good because that was unnecessary. The game feels more fluid and easy to get into for new players. The skill ceiling of weapons is balanced too, those more difficult to manage (Charge Blade, Kinsect Blade, Hunting Horn) are powerful and feels good to learn them. While simpler weapons like Long Sword or Hammer feel nice to get into if it's your first time, but still hit hard if you know how to use them.

Now for the bad stuff, the DLC. Iceborn is expensive and is the second part of the game. Having only the base game is like having only half of it. The clutch claw, new movesets, more locations, Master Rank, the rest of weapon upgrades and the rest of the monsters, it's all hidden behind the paywall of the dlc. All that for almost same price as the base game. i suggest waiting for a sale to get it, but it might feel restrictive not to have it.

Even then, I love the game, 10/10.

Beautiful game. The weapons, items, synergies, enemies, bosses, everything is made with love and passion for the genre. Adding roll immunity makes this very unique, along with all the mechanics such as contact damage or item usage. It's so lore rich I've played for almost 80 hours and I've yet to reveal a whole lot of content, seems so simple but it's so huge. I loved The Binding of Isaac and I love this as much. It's so satisfying when you feel it in your gut "this is the run" and you get powerful weapons and items; and also, it feels so frustrating when at the end of that run you defeat the final boss and proceed to the last room, only to realize you forgot to ask for the bullet that can kill the past. Only this kind of games is capable of such frustration and I love that <3

I finished the game and I had to review this. I got this on sale because Rage 2 looked nice enough and I wanted to see by myself how this played. Well, the game is not good at all, for several reasons.

- First of all, the enemy AI, variety and placement is quite bad. There are only 2 general enemies; mutants and humans. Humans are the Authority and bandits; mutants are just mutants. There are some "big" enemies of both types, but they just have more health. All enemies are dumb af, I played on hard mode and they barely take advantage of your bad positioning and bad aim. And sometimes they spawn in a bottleneck and are super easy to kill.

- Then, the gun play. Many people praise the gun play saying it has potential. I kinda agree, it could've been nice if not for 2 things: the weapon mapping and the extremely effective "pop rockets" and "fat mamas". The buttons of weapon quick select are confusing; shift cycles all 4 equipped weapons (same as mouse wheel) and to change ammo types you have to hold Ctrl and select it manually (while game time still runs, making it hard to do while on combat), or press the number of the weapon (which is hard for the last ones). All these make gun play slow and not dynamic as it should be in a game like this. The other point is 2 ammo types that are OP. You could complete the whole game with just pop rockets and fat mamas; fat mamas headshot every enemy but the big ones, every single enemy takes 1 headshot, the big ones take 3 or 4. Pop rockets 1 shot everyone with a direct hit, except again for big enemies. All this on hard mode. Both ammo types are cheap as hell to make and its components are common, with the right suit at the beginning you can make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ within the first hour of gameplay. Of course it's your choice to use or not these, but the other guns and their ammo variations are ineffective most of the time, specially on the second half of the game.

- Finally the story is as bland as wet noodles, as you can read on other reviews.

tl;dr = weapon balance, bland enemies and bad story make this a 5/10

I can't recommend this. If you want to try it, wait for a sale.

Nice game and all, it's buggy as hell and that kinda ruins the experience sometimes, but overall it's ok. The ranked is kinda weird the bans and picks can be annoying, as your teammates force you to play something you might not want to play, the match becomes a fight of counters instead of a fight of skills. Can't complain about toxic community, as every online game has toxic players.
Cards system is very good, you can play any way you like with the same champion, but it all comes down to the "best" playstyle, even if you want to play different, you might end up playing the same cards eveyone plays.

I'll give it a solid 8/10, and yes I just wrote this for the badge.

Edit: I remember, matchmaking is horrible, if you want to carry a low level friend you can get super skilled players on the enemy team and vice versa. Sometimes my teammates are new players and the enemy is all pros.

Nice game. Many people say Border2 is better, but in this the item drops and usefulness (a unique Oz kit from the beggining can serve you well til near the end), and experience gain is much better. The DLC is kinda crappy but enjoyable. Playing with the sniper is super fun and a meele build is actually possible. The ice element and Oz kits, and how it works with enemies are a nice adittion, tho it could've been better if running out of air was an actual treat. The whole intro gameplay gets repetitive.
I think is a solid 7/10. The price kills it, being shorter than Border2 (both games with all DLC) but a lot more expensive makes no sense.
If you plan on buying, wait for the sales, unless you're filthy rich.

Excellent tribute to the classics, really has a Unreal and Quake feel in it. Fast, weapons everywhere, no need to purchase them or anything like nowadays games. Pretty neat. To customize you need to buy it, yes, but you don't need customization to play.
