The AI allegations have been disproved as of writing this, so I'm happy to announce the game is better for it.

The core gameplay is fun. It's Legends Arceus but a bit more dynamic.
Still, if there aren't some major content additions and fixes to many common bugs and inconsistencies, I don't see this game lasting very long. I genuinely want this game to be better, because at least it tried something ambitious. Additionally, this should spur on competitors to do better (nudge nudge Gamefreak).

All in all, in its current state, 3.5/10.
Fun but very, VERY shallow.

I nearly died in the tutorial mission / 10

But genuinely, I got this game because a friend of mine retweeted the launch trailer and is in the game (Hi Horatius!).
The game looked really cute and fun, and that proved to be true when I started it up.
Visually, the game is stunning with its chunky but smooth art style.
The sound design is incredible, too! Hits feel like they have some real impact, and you can tell things apart by sound alone.
Enemy design is fitting as well. Some classic things like your every-day slime, to some more... unique potato looking carrot things that run into walls and then die.

Each enemy feels unique to fight as well. Some simply charge at you, some create terrain and walls, some run away and poke, some have big telegraphed attacks.
The hub area seems lovely so far. Better weapons and armour take what feels like a very fair time to obtain.
For healing, you could just shovel down mushrooms to heal five HP at a time which takes ages. Or you could craft potions that are fairly expensive in materials, but heal you a lot in a pinch when you're fighting.
The bank system also looks to be juuust big enough to keep your most important crafting gear, as well as some backup equipment.

Most importantly, the game feels challenging but never unfair. I failed my first two missions not because the game is poorly balanced, but because I didn't pay attention. My deaths felt deserved, and only made me think "I can do better next time."

There are some bugs like getting stuck on wall corners, text not disappearing, the music randomly stopping when you walk between biomes. But at the time of writing this, the version is 0.1 and I'm sure those things will be fixed soon enough.

I'm excited to see where this game goes!

I thought this would be a weird/silly dating sim, but I actually got extremely invested in the characters and story! As weird as it sounds, this is one of the most fun games I've ever played!

I bought this game when it was on discount, and didn't touch it.
Recently remembered I had it, started playing, and I'm in love.

There's no review. This is genuinely the MOST fun I've ever had playing a game.

An actual 10/10 game. Absolutely incredible in every aspect.

Update: After nearly 2k hours and 4 seasons later, the game got even better from when I first reviewed it. Absolutely still worth it.

This is, hands down, one of the most fun games I've ever come across. Every item feels rewarding, every attack feels as if there's real weight behind it, and there isn't a single enemy that makes you feel like you got cheated into a death.

Short rating: 6/10

First of: The game in itself is a lot of fun.
The graphics are pleasing, the mechanics work smoothly, and the riddles are mostly fun.
But!:

-Your inventory WILL get cluttered
-Some riddles are a chore to solve (run around, check the entire area, and remember 20 things at once)
-It often feels like you're too busy to scroll through the abundance of mostly useless items to actually focus on what the clues might mean
-Some riddles don't give you any clues at all, and feel random when you finally solve them
-There's little to no consistency regarding the riddles. Some are impossibly hard to solve and require you to check the ENTIRE island for clues, and other riddles are basically just "Click this 3 times."

Everything else is great, though. It's a satisfying game to play.

Do I recommend this game?
Yes, but barely.
It's a well made game, but a lot of times it's simply frustrating to play.
The game tries too hard to implement riddles, and shoves usable items down your throat before it lets you even attempt to solve a puzzle.
And by the time you get to an area where you need said items, you've already forgotten what you have in your inventory, and what most of the items even do.

Who knows, I might just be too dumb for this game, and it's meant for really smart people who can micromanage and keep track of dozens of things at once.

Short rating: A solid 10/10. Nothing lower than a perfect score for me!

I was a little sceptical at first, thinking that a Top-Down game couldn't compare to other horror games such as Outlast.
But, to my luck, I was positively surprised!
The atmosphere of every location in this game, even the "blank" forest, is eerie, creepy and just the right amount of being downright terrifying.

You feel like you can't trust any of the characters you meet, and nothing is scarier than hearing quiet footsteps right behind you as you wander around.
Will they betray you as soon as you turn your back? Do they have your best interest in mind? You can't tell! And that's a huge part of what makes this game amazing!

Get the game, and get a long, petrifying experience out of it!
