Very fun rogue-lite game! It gives instant Borderlands vibes, in a good way. The guns are fun and varied. The game runs great, will work even for not very powerful PCs on High or even Ultra graphics, which is nice. The game does have some sort of story and so some things are the same as you go through and you get permanent upgrades that will help you make it every time further and further into the "dungeons". There are collectibles as well that seem to be in the same place so that's also a thing that stays. The guns and randomness comes from each run rather than from a completely different set of paths each time. That is not a bad thing as some, like myself, will appreciate unlocking new characters and skills and the progress of it all. The boss fights, at least the 2 that I have beaten so far are a bit lacking in terms of VR, it seems like a port from the game where the arena might feel too small in VR, keep that in mind. Definitely worth a try tho! Can't wait for the online co-op. I think that is what will make this game even better.

If you like classic rhythm games like guitar hero or rock band you are going to enjoy this game.

It's hard to explain how fun it is in VR without playing it but the controls are intuitive and easy to get into but also have a high skill ceiling to really get good at, even on normal difficulty. It's still challenging and very fun to try to go through and unlock all the songs and different trombones.

It's completely different from rhythm games in vr that are similar to fitness apps as this is more of an experience you can easily enjoy sitting and playing just for fun, as it does involve playing the right "notes" as you go.

I can definitely recommend this and I'm looking forward to playing more.

Also, seems like no micro transactions, all the cosmetics can be unlocked in game with in-game currency you obtain by just playing.

Silent Hill 2 : The RNDM Review

In the realm of survival horror, few titles cast as long a shadow as Silent Hill 2. With its recent remake, we're invited back into a world steeped in psychological terror and existential dread. This isn’t just about the scares; it’s about confronting the things we bury deep within ourselves. As the fog rolls in, it brings with it an atmosphere that feels hauntingly familiar yet refreshingly new. If you’re ready for a journey that tests your nerves and your understanding of humanity, then let’s delve into what this remake has to offer.

Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thl1m3bRUI0

[VISUALS & GRAPHICS]

Let’s talk about the fog. In the original, it cleverly disguised technical limitations. Here, it serves a different purpose—crafting an atmosphere that is both inviting and foreboding. This fog envelops the town, allowing just enough visibility to keep you on edge, constantly questioning what lurks beyond. The colors? Perfectly desaturated to evoke a sense of nostalgia while remaining fresh. The developers didn’t just replicate; they understood the essence of Silent Hill and paid homage to it.

As for visual effects, there are options in the menu that allow for pixelation or desaturation, which I appreciate, but overall, the game looks stunning. Yes, there are some stuttering issues—common in Unreal Engine 5 games—but I trust future updates will iron those out.

[CHARACTERS & STORY]

Now, James Sunderland. The new voice actor has truly made this character his own. There’s a depth to his performance that resonates, even as the other characters may not quite reach the same level. They each tell their story, keeping the unsettling atmosphere alive.

The psychological depth is what this game nails. It dives into the messy, complex nature of trauma and guilt. The pacing allows for introspection, making the revelations hit hard. Each playthrough reveals new details, drawing you deeper into the story.

[GAMEPLAY & MECHANICS]

When it comes to pacing, this game is a masterclass. It’s a slow burn that builds to frantic encounters. It’s not just about speed; it’s about crafting an experience that evokes genuine tension. The over-the-shoulder camera might feel modern, but it doesn’t detract from the original’s haunting vibe—it enhances it.

The new dodging mechanic? A necessary addition. It keeps you feeling vulnerable without turning the game into a mindless sprint. You’re still on edge with every corner you turn.

The puzzles are woven into the narrative seamlessly. They’re straightforward yet engaging, offering just the right amount of guidance. You’ll find yourself lost in the labyrinthine corridors, piecing together the story as you go.

[AUDIO DESIGN]

And now, the soundtrack. It’s an impressive reinterpretation of the original, striking a balance between nostalgia and innovation. It draws you in without overwhelming you.

But it’s the silence that really amplifies the tension. There are no unnecessary noises here; the absence of sound can be just as impactful as what you hear. A creak, a whisper, or even a sudden noise can send chills down your spine. The audio design elevates the horror experience to a level many games struggle to achieve.

[FINAL VERDICT]

So, should you pick this up? Absolutely. Whether you’re a newcomer or a long-time fan, this remake is a captivating journey into the heart of psychological horror. Yes, the themes are dark, but that’s what makes it so compelling. If you find yourself hesitant to experience it alone, I invite you to watch my complete playthrough on YouTube. Together, we can navigate the fog.

This was a birthday gift to myself, and it’s one I can wholeheartedly recommend. Silent Hill 2 has returned, and it’s just as haunting as ever.

Addendum: Small hotfixes have made the game run better for me.

Amazing open world that does inspire a great sense of wonder even if you are not super familiar with the source material. This is a new and original story so it doesn't ask for you to know everything, instead it finds interesting and interactive ways to teach you about itself. The combat system is as simple or as complex as you want it to be. The views can be breathtaking. I think this game with a DLC that includes perhaps quidditch and basic online activities even if limited and do not disturb the single player campaign experience it could be truly an amazing platform and find its place in the game rotation of many gamers. Even without this the game is worth a playthrough and is one of the best single player open world experiences I have experienced so far.

EDIT: This would be my nomination for Game of the year. I know it didn't even appear in other awards, hopefully here it gets nominated for something as it does deserve some recognition. The world building alone is an outstanding work of love that lingers in your memory after playing through the story.
