This game has sat on my wishlist since it came out, and I finally got around to picking it up recently.
It is definitely short, but it does an excellent job of delivering on that classic metroidvania feel, sending me right back to days spent playing the 2D metroid games. That's a huge plus in my book.

The gameplay is solid. Not exceptionally difficult, and being able to stop time is a very strong crutch if you need it, as are the abundant healing items if you want to face tank your way through boss fights. I enjoyed the variety of playstyles possible with the numerous different weapons in the game, though by the endgame I was pretty comfortable on the handful I'd come to love, so new finds were less exciting.

The writing is... okay. A little twisting (it's a time travel narrative, so that's expected). The side characters for the most part didn't grab my interest immensely. (Aside from the crow, the crow's incredible). The LGBTQ+ themes are definitely a little heavyhanded, but they do rather have to be to be explored in any depth for the rather short title. They're also almost entirely disconnected from the main plot, which I found a little disappointing.

Overall, I recommend it! Particularly if it's on sale, maybe wait for one if you're on the fence. Exploring, hunting down secrets, finding new areas was all very reminiscent of metroidvanias past. It's what it says on the tin, and that's good enough for me.

It's been a few years, so I'm updating my review for the game. With the launch of the Witch Queen expansion, the game is in one of the best states it's ever been in. Weapon crafting has been a welcome mix-up in the grind, the activities have been (for the most part) quite enjoyable, The latest raid wasn't the greatest, but it sure wasn't bad, and the promise of two dungeons and another raid this year is exciting. Do be aware that the monetization is a bit rough, but if you pick up the deluxe edition, you'll have all the important stuff (at least, as of the time of writing).

Destiny's a great game to pick up if you've got the time and some friends to really get into it with, or are willing to go find some who already play. The solo experience isn't bad, but the real meat and potatoes is cooperative stuff.

The first Risk of Rain game is one of my favorites of all time, and this game has certainly lived up to the hype. Many mechanics have been flawlessly moved into 3D, and other new ones have added to the relatively simplistic game.

Probably the best free to play game I've found. Absolutely fantastic, with great movement mechanics, a variety of weaponry, and no paywalls.

Update as of Nov. 2018: Fortuna just dropped, and the game is even better. A lot of the issues with the first open world have been resolved, and the new one has taken everything from the old and improved upon it. If you don't mind a grind, Warframe is a fantastic game.

This game is great. Wanna build a castle? Check. Wanna do battle with a flying eye? This game has gotchu. The gameplay is a lot of a fun, the enemies are varied, the progression is solid. To top it all off, the developers are great.

Absolutely get this. Hours of entertainment building spacecraft and asploding them, deorbiting them, flinging them into space, and having a generally hilariously good time.
