Update: A couple years in and I can't help but continue to gush over this game. I got caught up talking about Quake Champions with friends and musing about how I wish Quake got the Doom 2016 treatment. Quake Champions is fine, but it just isn't the Singleplayer continuation of Quake 1 that I've always wanted. With the announcement Doom: The Dark Ages it just continued to feel more and more like the universe preferred Doom over Quake. However, I realized that this remaster is still here and still going strong. Even if I never get a continuation that I wish for, the original Quake will always be here, and the community that surrounds it will continue to give it love with expansions/mods until we all turn to dust.

Long Live Quake!

Quake is a classic without hyperbole.
Initially, I was very annoyed after the announcement of the "re-release" of this game because the first few things that greet you when you boot up the game are splash screens for the various studios/publisher/etc and a dreadful Bethesda EULA (which is basically at odds with the original Quake license agreement in some ways). However, this KEX engine version of the game was given some real TLC. The new features and the included expansions are cool and all (an all new one included!), but this just does so much for the quality of life if you want to jump in and play the very original quake, THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME EVER, in the modern era. All without really bothering the original too much I think. GLquake and any source ports and/or mods you've set up on the old versions remain untouched and playable if you prefer it that way.
Overall, it's been a joy revisiting Quake- A task that has historically had a several pain points while getting everything configured for play on a modern PC.
Huge congrats to the teams who worked on this.
