I haven't played any other 40K games, but I really enjoy this game for what it is, which is basically a Killing Floor 3, but done better. It's a great game to play with a group of friends and has some really satisfying weapon attacks and slicing and blasting off baddy body parts. It's gleefully gooey and you gotta respect it for that. The MTX I have so far completely ignored as the outfits are rather dull, so they should really put something fun in there if they want to try and get me to give them more money.

The skill trees are okay, nothing amazing, but they're fine. I don't love the way they do weapon stats, it's overly complicated and confusing and just in general not great. So it is hard for me to care about grinding for better gear to optimize since they have a weird stat balance system they don't fully explain and you only get one weapon drop per stage completed. So if you're looking for a great meta system outside of the core gameplay, you aren't going to find it here. Usually that would be a bit of a dealbreaker for me, but the core gameplay loop is just so dang good, it makes up for everything. It reminds me of how Destiny 1 and 2 just had the absolute best gunplay and weapon sounds that you could ignore that it was organized like a drunk monkey and just happily run missions and enjoy the experience living in the moment.

I played a little Vermintide 1 and didn't care for it, but for some reason, I DO like this game, despite it being I think basically the same thing. I don't understand why that is, but just know that even if you didn't like Vermintide, this game still might be enjoyable for you.

Definitely worth picking up, especially when it goes on one of its deep discounts during the main Steam sale schedule.

As a huge Path of Exile player and someone who put a moderate amount of hours into Diablo III, I came into this game with pretty high hopes to be honest, but also low expectations for the skill tree build complexity. I have to say, the build complexity is better than I expected and quite enjoyable to mess around with and test drive new content and experiment. That's really where games like this thrive in my opinion because it's what keeps you coming back. It's why I have nearly 1K hours into Path of Exile 1 after all.

Now, the thing that Diablo has always done better than Path of Exile is in the story department and this being Blizzard, they did not disappoint and have a pretty strong story here with fantastic cinematics (though not as many as I would have hoped to be honest). Great voice acting all around too. I have to admit, however, I didn't really understand some of the plot points, but hey that is probably just on me.

The game runs pretty well overall, but still not as well as I would hope from an isometric ARPG that doesn't even have a ton of particle effects blasting everywhere. My RTX 2060 has things sitting on mid settings and running between 50-80 FPS depending on where I am and what I'm doing. The game does take a major dip in areas with several other players also blasting all of their effects, but that's fairly rare to run into. I haven't tried it on my Steam Deck yet, so I can't speak to that.

At the time of writing this, I have played 2 seasons with 1 character build each, meaning I'm clocking around 60 hours per character run through, which is completely reasonable, but also not super exciting since endgame content doesn't off as huge of a variety as Path of Exile does, despite ripping several of PoE's main seasonal styles almost directly. PoE suffers from content bloat though and Diablo has always been far more streamlined and more for casual players who want to hop back in for a 60 hour playthrough every few months, so it clearly separates itself out in that regard, which is nice for those of us who do enjoy both games.

I do have Vessel of Hatred and would consider it a Must Buy, which is a bit of a knock against it since that cranks the price up, so wait until the combo pack goes on sale so you are basically getting the expansion pack for free. It's great content and really rounds the game out. Their seasonal MTX passes are also pretty solid honestly. I bought the first one and got everything no problem, despite coming into the season late, but skipped the second, but may still buy it and get all the goodies from it. It's like $10, so not a big leap and I appreciate that since the game itself is quite expensive.

If you like ARPGs then you'll like this game, pure and simple.

A truly wonderful little gem of a game by a really small crew. The story is captivating, the characters charming, the art work whimsical and magical, and the narrator a delight to listen to. The branching narrative system is interesting, although ultimately there is only one real ending, so this really needs to be viewed more as like a murder mystery where there's only one correct killer. I do wish there was a little bit more actual gameplay and decision making at times since for the most part, once you pick a new branch you just play it out until it concludes without being able to influence much else. A fairly minor nitpick though. Overall, it was a wonderful game to play on my Steam Deck before bed.

The situation awareness is absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. In BFV, I can use the sound to know what's happening extremely clearly and they have a very fair and clear spotting system but playing Delta Force feels like I'm playing blindfolded and underwater with a monkey banging pots and pans near my head.

Also, you can mark things in Delta Force, but it doesn't appear that your friends can see your marks other than the special arrow.

The spawning is absolutely atrocious too. You will spawn on a squad mate hiding behind cover and it will put you 20ft away from them right out in the open and there's no spawn invincibility, so before you can figure out where you are and get to cover, you're either dead or at 5% HP. It will also seemingly randomly just spawn enemies next to you or behind you, often in groups.

The Operators system is... Fine I guess. It definitely isn't a positive, but I didn't personally have as much issue with it as most people, but I think that's because 90% of players were using one just three Operators. As the game gets more, it's going to get much worse.

Overall, the game lacks serious polish and all of the little fixes you expect in an online shooter in 2024. Things you stop and think and go yeah CoD and BF fixed that like 3 or more games ago.

Battlefield V goes on sale for REALLY cheap regularly, I just don't see a point in a free version that's just worse at everything. It doesn't even look prettier.

I like the vibe of this game and it has a lot of good things going for it. Interesting story, iconic music, sexy existentialist robot characters...However, it is also held back in a lot of ways since this feels like a bad port of a console title. The graphics and textures feel very Playstation 3. The keyboard and mouse controls are a joke much of the time, and the camera is wonky as all hell. It took me a bit to mod this game to not look absolutely terrible and unfortunately it runs at sub 30fps while looking 15 years old and it is NOT my PC. I was really hoping the GOTY Edition would have a bit more polish and visual updates to clean it up. I went and looked at Nier Replicant which only came out 2 years ago and it honestly looks pretty similar too and I would think it likely has similar M+K issues.

I can't help but feel like I am fighting the poorly designed game systems and weirdly poor visuals to find the masterpiece of a game underneath. Interestingly enough, this game came out the same year as Breath of the Wild, which I also feel the exact same way about, so I feel like the proper way to view this game is as a weird Switch port because that really is what it feels like. However, BOTW got some CRAZY mod support to improve the visuals and systems when playing on PC emulators, while Nier only got a pretty basic paint job and some M+K training wheels.

Look, I understand this is widely regarded as a masterpiece and I'm not denying that from a story standpoint, but so was The Last Guardian and I found that game frustratingly unplayable. I realize it hasn't been that long, but I would love to see this game get a full blown Remaster in like UE5 in 4K or something. It already runs like dirt on my system, it could at least look gorgeous while doing so is all I'm saying. I mean, this is a Square game for crying out loud, where is the Final Fantasy VII Remake or even FFXV visual polish and correct PC support?

Anyway, rant over. I love 2B and you will too. I also saw there's an anime that I will check out after playing this game because that sounds pretty cool.

I love everything about this game except the combat, which is atrocious. Look, maybe I just don't understand this genre of game or there's something wonky with the SteamDeck which is where I played it, but I just lost absolutely constantly and I didn't understand why. The controls felt weird and the movement felt extremely slow and I couldn't really figure out how to dodge or counter correctly. A real shame because it has such a cool vibe and I'm sure others won't have the issues I did, but as someone who doesn't ever play this kind of game, I just couldn't get it to be fun.

Is this game like Baldur's Gate I and II?
-Sort of, but also just infinitely better.

Is this game like Larian's Divinity I and II?
-Again, sort of, but also just infinitely better.

There's nothing out there quite like Baldur's Gate 3. After playing this game, everything else just feels like a cheap imitation. It takes the genre and shatters the ceiling across the board. I genuinely feel bad for future RPG developers having to have this god tier game to be compared to.

I got Final Fantasy XVI, Starfield, and Baldur's Gate 3 all at the same time and I started them all around the same time. Since then, I have stopped playing the other two because every time I boot them up, I am confronted with the fact that they just aren't as good and they feel so small and weak by comparison.

I could try and explain why this game is so good. I could tell you it has some of the best voice acting of all time and EVERYTHING is voice acted. That it has some of the deepest characters of all time. That it revolutionized how I play and think about actual D&D. That it has the single most interconnected web of RPG choices I've ever seen and its not even a close race. But really, none of these explanations do this game justice.

The best way I can describe it is imagine if you will that all other video games are your mid tier DC superheroes. Your Green Arrow, your Aquaman, your Beast Boy. They're in no way bad and we all got used to them being around and keeping us safe. But then Superman shows up and makes them all obsolete basically. This game is the Superman of RPGs, possibly the Superman of video games entirely honestly. Its transcendently good. The only other game I can think of that made me feel this way was Disco Elysium, but this is just such a bigger degree.

Buy BG3, play BG3, have your life completely taken over by BG3.
Then start another 120hr playthrough and continue the cycle forever because it will be incredibly different each time you play based on the decisions you make.

Thank you Larian for this likely once in a lifetime masterpiece of a game.

Now, all this being said, this game isn't without its mechanical and structural flaws, many of which I'm sure will get patched out.

If I were to give it a few bigger picture criticisms I would say this:

1) Please make the intro landing area more streamlined and less random feeling in terms of companion collecting. I understand the goal is to make character intros more organic, but that is absolutely not what happened to me. I legitimately missed multiple core companions when I first started and had to go back and find them like 30 hours in after Googling. All because I went right instead of left when I started and I didn't realize the game would simply let me immediately miss out on main characters so easily. Main characters should be part of the main story and be unmissable.

2) Having the wrong companions for certain events and dialogue genuinely feels bad sometimes. When you start a conversation and then realize you really should have had someone else in your party for this one because this is someone from their past or they would have a valuable contribution and you just fully miss out on that, it doesn't feel great at all. This is a 120 hour game, so its not like you can just easily catch that next playthrough. I would highly recommend simply having all companions available for cutscenes and conversations or having key ones pop in magically for a little bit. There's already a mod for this, but it should simply be core content.

3) This is highly specific, but please please please fix the Nightsong arc. Completing it triggers a time jump for absolutely no reason and a bunch of bad stuff happens if you hadn't done other stuff first. This time jump simply needs to be removed or placed at the ENTRANCE to the area, not at the very end after you've spent 10 hours clearing the area. I thought I was supposed to do this arc first before going to Moonrise Towers and it turned out that caused something horrible to happen, even though it was in no way connected and I was genuinely upset about that since the game acted like I made that decision on purpose, but I absolutely didn't.

In general the biggest flaw is the feeling of missing content, but this feeling also inspires you to want to play it again, so I can understand why its designed that way. Its good in small doses, just sometimes it gets pushed a bit too far is all.

I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this game. On the one hand, it is a pretty good mystery game with a very unique flavor and world to it that makes me want to always be learning more about it. On the other though, the gameplay mechanics themselves are tedious and the ending felt like I was intentionally fed two solutions on purpose for the sole purpose of making me unsure as to which was the right one. I spent some time painstakingly trying to figure out which was the correct answer and it turned out to not matter as much as I thought, which I found to be a bit of a let down. It could have been though that I was super tired from staying up late because I couldn't stop playing and my brain didn't fully understand. The gameplay was also quite tedious as it was a lot of running around somewhat aimlessly over a space that was simply too large.

There were also quite a few core mechanics that were never explained and I wish I had known right out of the gate. Like hey you should go get a foot bath because that allows you to see any pickup items around you. Or hey you should go to all of the Syndicate symbols because those are the computer terminals to progress the main plot. Or hey, don't worry about fast travel costs, just get the foot bath so you can see pickup items and then you will never run out of blood crystals. I would have done like 50% less wandering aimlessly around if I had known this stuff to be honest.

Overall though, I would play a Paradise Killer 2 with a cleaner ending and less tedious gameplay mechanics and would recommend this game for detective fans who want something genuinely unique and interesting.

Also, the final version of the main song that plays throughout the game absolutely slaps.

The ending recontextualizes the entire franchise and I dont know how I feel about it. I might be angry? But also amused at how much it explains? I hate to say it, but I dont recommend.

You've heard the stories about the production of this game I'm assuming, which is why you're looking at reviews right now to see if it REALLY has improved as much as is claimed. The answer is absolutely, yes. This is a fantastic little space sim game that's got chill vibes and is stunning as all heck. You never know what you're going to find next, which is really the core of what keeps me coming back. Everything is procedurally generated in an infinite universe of possibilities and there just isn't anything quite like the excitement of landing on a planet and seeing animals made out of metal discs flying around a planet full of red grass and bubbles in the air teeming with terrifying boiling storms and then you go to the next planet and the plants are all made out of giant orbs and the rocks are all purple and the sky is filled with sparkles.

People sometimes compare this game to Star Citizen or Elite Dangerous and I'm sorry, but that's absolute nonsense. This isn't REALLY a space sim, its an infinite corridor of an art exhibit where its your objective to find what's beautiful and capture it. The best parts of the game are sitting and admiring the view, taking screenshots, and setting up bases in just the right location that give you that perfect view of the sunset. Sure, there's some cool survival crafting and combat that's surprisingly solid, but that's not why you will return. You come back to see what's waiting for you in the next system because it could be absolutely anything and that, my friends, is what a space exploration game should be all about.

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend everyone play this game on Custom rather than just jumping right into a Normal game. The settings options they finally gave us for Custom are just fantastic and nearly completely eliminated the long running need to mod the game to do what you really wanted. I'm currently only running 6 mods right now and its basically just a few QoL fixes to speed things up since I've already played the game through a few times and am starting a fresh playthrough. I wouldn't recommend heavily modding this game since it updates insanely regularly with content drops and that will brick your game like it did mine so many times. Only add a handful QoL mods that don't change anything drastic and you will be fine.
