It's a solid CCG with some new tricks up its sleeve. I've had a lot of fun playing it, though players who pay will get the cards they want quicker than others. If you're one of those, however, the prices are actually very affordable.

-Update-
After spending some more time ingame, it seems like the draft mode is one of the most popular anyway, so there's really no need to pay to enjoy the Hell out of this game.

The game's in a semi-beta state, so if you're gonna get in on it, now's the time.

A surprising favorite among 4X games. I've put 90% of my time into this game before getting it on Steam, and I still come back to it now and again. Everything about SotS is cut down to its best aspects; empire management is user friendly and simplified, but still a powerful way to gain an advantage, while combat is straight to the point and engaging. You will never spend twenty minutes meticulously planning your next turn. Instead you'll be rushing to make new designs and push production, scraping together fleets to push your advantage and stave off annihilation.

If this game had better publishing, it would rank among the classics. And once you think you've played it out, just try the ACM mod.

Early Access Review
This game is a welcome throwback to the old style, where creating an atmosphere was more important than the pixel count of the cutscenes. Running a minimal gui and text-based descriptions of most events, the game manages to create a sense of urgency and intensity right from the first moments.

This urgency stems from a sense of realism, not in the sense of arbitrary damage values or photo-realistic animations, but in the sense of hand-to-hand combat being a bloody and exhausting affair. I engaged my first human unfriendly (not to give too much away, beginning or no,) with a multi-tool knife thinking that my "weapon" easily beat his "basic attack" only to be surprised by tackles, ground fighting, and a desperate struggle that left me frantically kicking him to death rather than celebrating with some level-up mechanic. I realized that even though I thought myself armed, in reality a multitool is a terrible damn weapon. The realistic aspect here is simple and effective, and more than just the number crunching.

At present build it seems like a few things could use tweaking or adding on to, but that's to be expected at this point and gives me hope that player input will keep this easily-overlooked gem on track. If the game were free, I would gladly still have donated just to see this game continue.

A mod I've watched develop for nearly a decade, No More Room in Hell is possibly the last hurrah we'll see from the Half-Life 2 modding community. Teamwork is as valuable as ammunition, and with the difficulty of many of the maps you're going to need friends at your side. It's not free-to-play, it's just plain free. So grab a few buddies and check it out; this is some of the best gaming you've seen on the source engine since Half-Life 2 itself.

Everything we wish Far Cry 2 had been. The graphics are pretty, it runs well, and it keeps you entertained. There's a bit of repetition involved to get all the unlocks and such, but other than that the core gameplay here is great. Highly recommended game of the year material.

Forced use of U-Play? Check. Counter-intuitive console-centered controls? Check. Constant crashes? Check. Even from the standpoint of core gameplay, missions are long and tedious with no way to save progress until poorly-set checkpoints. If you are a fan of the series go ahead and pick it up, but AC3 is a console port at its best, and tedious at its worst. You can and will be disappointed.
