DLC just over a month after release, stay away unless you want to take out a mortgage for the full Planet Coaster 2 experience next year.

At current, this game needs some serious re-balancing.

10% of my game was driving, the other 90% was stressing out about batteries and fuel and just never having enough money to do anything that I needed to do.

Every level up felt flat as even at max fragile goods I never felt like I was making more money than I was at the start of the game.

You have to stay on the "roads" because if you don't they somehow magically know you were "recklessly driving" even if the ride was smooth and you didn't hit a single piece of debris and you will get a hefty fine.

There's a lot of good ideas here but they have made this game feel tedious to play and its unfortunate. Hopefully they patch things up because the "recommended" difficulty should not feel like stress. At no point could I just enjoy driving without worrying about a battery being too low or fuel being too low.

Now for something that doesn't make sense.
Why in the galaxy would these trucks rely on not 1, not 2 but 7 power cells all for different systems. And if they are that needed why is it so hard to find them at shops and why does one cost nearly a whole pay check. These "ships" are very inefficient and whilst I get its the whole gimmick of the game, who funded this absolutely silly mode of transportation and more over why did it succeed?

Random weight check checkpoints.
We're in space... why the heck am I being weighed in zero G?...

All the shifty changes in business plans from changing to chapters to a sequel based format seems dishonest.

As it is, this "game" does not have a conclusive ending and answers non questions related to the story and now you have to buy a "fully fledged sequel" to find out what is even going on.

Because of this, I can't recommend this.

P.S When I first bought this, it wasn't even clear that it was going to be a chapter based game and I didn't find that out until beating it and then finding small af print on the store page that it was going to be chapter based. if known before hand I wouldn't even have bought it.

This is a tough one, at its core its a wonderful spin on the hospital management sim and if you enjoyed Two Point Hospital or Theme Hospital chances are you'll enjoy this one. The issues stem from the game REALLY not liking you spending too long on one level as there is currently a gamebreaking softlock bug within this game that basically makes levels un-5-starrable short of restarting the level and trying again and hoping that the bug doesn't happen again.

So this will be a thumbs down from me until the bug is fixed, when it is, this will turn into a thumb up.

Edit: You can fix this softlock by saving, loading into a new level and then loading back in to your current save. but you shouldn't have to do this to begin with, so the thumb remains down.

Edit2: Woop! Its fixed!

So lets be real here, this game isn't a bad kart racer, but its not a amazing one either. Its enjoyable for what it is and honestly I can look past the rough edges but what I don't understand is this game is just dead on arrival. What caused this to happen?

One thing could be advertising or the lack there of, I hadn't even heard this was coming out until a month just before release through word of mouth. But I want to discuss the pro's and cons of this game.

Pros

-Unique (at least to me) mechanics, things like the magic paths and super jumps make it stand out to me, I like their inclusive and it does feel like its not just trying to be a cash grab.

-Troll hosts, At first I rolled my eyes at their inclusion but once I learnt what they actually do, I found it kind of cool, each of them effect the track in some way whether it is boost tracks, bumpers or something simple like more music notes to collect. Also depending on the host is the genre the music on the track will try to capture. This makes some songs very hit and miss (Pro-tip, pick Barb, all her tracks are good)

-2 weapon system, In this game there are two types of weapons, music note related weapons that every one can get and the standard box weapons which have an assortment of weapons and also one weapon unique to the racer you are playing.

-The online mode actually has a cup mode where players can vote what 4 tracks will be raced and creating a custom cup. There's also a single race mode for those who just want a quick race.

-Online races (when you can find them) are actually a lot of fun and really allows the mechanics of the game to be used to the fullest potential.

Cons

-Too easy, The only time I struggled on this game was the "rainbow road" time trail, but even then I got it on my third attempt, everything else was very one and done so I think the difficulty needs tweaking.

-Where are all the Villains? Literally the only villain in this game (Base game I do not count the DLC) is Farquad, Where's Tighten? Where's Tai Lung? Where's Lord Shen? Where's Prince Charming? Where's the fairy godmother? Where's Professor Marmalade? Like they dropped the ball on the character selection here by only starring one villain?

- Day 1 DLC, That locks 2 characters behind a paywall, Death and Oogway.

- Dead on Arrival Online mode, Now this really isn't the fault of the game but seriously, where is everyone? Even on day 1 absolutely no-one was playing this online and it ain't even that bad.

-Visual Style, Now graphics don't make a great game, but it can help it present itself better. This game looks like they made it so it can run on the Switch and then ported it to everything else rather than make it look amazing and then downgrade the Switch version.

-The voicelines/acting, Just... turn it down... they missed a ton of opportunities for some themed voicelines for the characters in a kart setting, its mostly just screaming and laughing, very little actually dialogue, the one plus is the kart racers do address each other when passing or hitting. But its safe stuff like "Out of the way [character name here]" The only fun one I heard is Fiona passing Megamind and saying "What a noggin!"

Conclusion

Honestly if you want a kart racer with your favourite Dreamworks characters then you can really do a lot worse, you can tell they tried and at least they didn't cram it full of micro-transactions which a lot of kart racers are doing these days, if you're looking for a kart racer with a solid online player-base. This ain't it chief, I feel like this game got done dirty massively because it is by no means terrible.

So some people say this games price is too steep for how long it is.

I say its worth it when you consider the brothers chaps provided free entertainment via Homestar Runner for over a decade.
