This game is phenomenal in terms of atmosphere, narrative and sound design but there are a few gripes holding it back from being what many would call peak.

[ISSUE #01: The chip system]
As I said previously I greatly admire how this game really emphasizes the fact you are basically a computer on legs that can fight through the narrative and gameplay. The chip system is a notable example of this having the player literally upgrading the characters hardware having to make the choice to sacrifice gameplay elements like the mini-map or enemy health bars for better combat ability instead of just equipping items in a single button press. But this system is rather lacking especially when it comes to explaining how mechanics such as chip fusing works, the menu being rather clunky making it hard to quickly test out new chips and some particularly overpowered chips such as heal on hit that make the game insultingly easy.

[ISSUE #02: playing as [spoiler] 9S [/spoiler]

This one really hurts to write as I originally found 9S to be really endearing as a character being the more emotional and human foil to the cold and robotic 2B (not saying 2B is a bad character btw she's just like that). It was interesting seeing how these two changed throughout the story as they explored the games world, learning about the machines and beginning to understand and trust in each other which made the parts of the story where ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan even more heartbreaking (Also 9S having such an obvious crush on 2B and being all flustered and cute about it is really adorable)

Its such a shame a lot of that gets stained by the second playthrough when you are forced to play as 9S and oh god oh god its so bad. I understand he's not built for combat but dear god his gameplay is just so sloppy you either mash light attack because you have no heavy for cool combos or spam hack playing the same top down shooter game 255 times insta killing everything nuking fun from orbit. The hacking is just such an underdeveloped mechanic that kills the flow of combat and yet shows signs of potential, It would have been really cool to hijack enemies during a fight to make them fight for me/fight as them but you can only do that if they haven't spotted you, vastly limiting its usage to exclusively big open world segments

[ISSUE #03: The Bosses]
Its such a shame that a game produced by Platinum has such unremarkable boss fights coming from the company that made Metal Gear Rising. Aside from Simone which is held up mostly by characterisation/design and certain parts of the final bosses from the 3rd playthrough. The rest are just really forgettable gameplay wise..

Engels is a damage sponge in both encounters, Adam & Eve get diffed by mashing dodge, A2 is discount Jetstream Sam and GrUn gets hyped up as this massive threat but gameplay wise is a joke.

[conclusion]
Overall good game worthy of praise held back by some major kinks in the armour. Glory to mankind

Fun game and I applaud them for making UE5 achieve playable levels of FPS on machines that aren't super beefy all but I curse eternal never-ending slander and misfortune upon EmbAIrk Studios for using the AI to make this game. I don't care if its just for the voice acting this ♥♥♥♥ is the reason electronics are gonna become expensive as ♥♥♥♥ due to RAM going up in price

There's very few games like this out there these days honestly.

I could go on about the combat feeling a bit too button mashy if you get what I mean but the real problem is this game's cover image on Steam like oh my god Travis looks so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weird with that toothy smile
Good thing there's a Steam Deck plugin that lets you change the artwork so I don't have that ghoulish visage staring at me all the time

This game's gunplay is unmatched, the movement is grounded but not to the point where it feels restrictive, the missions have high replay value, the base management elements give you a reason to not just kill everybody you see and the game is incredibly well optimized while still looking good 9 years later

Its just a shame that if you don't play/read up on MGS1, Snake Eater, Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes the story will be utterly incomprehensible like the campaigns of several Call Of Duty games got mixed in with Silent Hill and GI Joe all told from the perspective of a man tripping off enough hospital grade Morphine to kill a whale

Kenji Saito is the only person in recorded history who has ever been able to match Hideo Kojima's utter bat sh!t insanity when it comes to game directing.

* Oh you can rescue civilians from being killed by the bad guys? How about we also let you strip them down to their underwear if you attack them as they walk away

* How do you regain health? By simply cutting the enemy into pieces and ripping out the big juicy batteries they keep inside their spines and crushing it in your hand and soaking up all the glowing electrical juices of course

* That woman you just fought who is clearly a cyborg? Well guess what one of your codec members will be very happy to inform you that her breasts are very likely natural and not part of her cyborg body

And oh yeah the game is actually super deep commentary on the military industrial complex, memes and the nature of violence.

It fills me with hope knowing that the craziness that Kojima pioneered will be carried on for generations to come

For context I play on a Steam Deck and the absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ghaul for this game to be called verified when you have to resort to tuning nearly every setting down to low in order to get a playable frame rate. Oh but I guess getting frame rates above 30FPS is clearly not important

For Elden Ring.
A Soulslike..
Where precise dodging is the difference between life or death...
Makes sense

But aside from that (and that god forsaken anti-cheat hurting preformance) The game is as good as the people say it is.

My only issue with this game is the tower. Just put all people in one big lobby area the size of the backrooms. The room will balance itself out as a new player isn't going to match with a level 1550 Bridget main fighting with the ferocity of the third monkey on the bridge to the ark.

I still recommend this game but to be frank after playing the previous Armored Core games it makes me annoyed at how much AC6 was dumbed down for the casuals and I mean that in the least elitist gatekeeper way possible.

OS tuning in AC4/For Answer was like building a character in an oldschool RPG. All these different aspects of your AC like vertical boost speed, lock on speed and EN capacity were all there to be precisely adjusted to suit your playstyle. While in AC6 OS tuning consists of unlocking abilities that should have been there by default and flat upgrades which apply to all AC's.

I'm fine with their being less part categories for the most part in AC6 because honestly having 4 different categories of boosts which all basically do the same thing was complete madness. But not including things like weapon arms, shoulder weapons and back boosters Is a step too far and restricting melee weapons to left hands is just baffling.

I could go on but just to keep it short. No hard mode kills replay value, Target assist is wayy too strong and is handholding at its worse, ranked PvP maps are too big and encourage running away and easy anti-cheat is the devil
