This game came out of literally nowhere for me, and it's quickly made itself one of my favourite games in a long while.
It has engaging gameplay, an awesome soundtrack, and plenty of interesting progression mechanics and character customisation options, but what sold this game for me is two things:

Cinematics
Every single moment of this game feels like you're inside a movie, but in a way that no other game has accomplished. Other "cinematic" games cut out a lot of player interaction and just shove epic sequences in your face you have no control over, but in this game it manages to keep a visually striking and cinematic experience whilst having complete control over it the entire time. The orchestral score constantly underlying the gameplay, the physical presence of your super destroyer over the battlefield, seeing stratagems fired directly from it, the amount of gunfire and explosions tearing up the battlefield even with only 4 players in the mission, every mission feels like one continuous action sequence and I love it. Even the loading screens and the outro cutscenes are exciting to watch! Even though each mission plays out in very similar ways, I find the entire sequence between travelling to an operation zone, deploying, completing the mission and extracting to be an engrossing experience the whole way through. I'm a big fan of shooter games that opt for a more cinematic experience without damaging gameplay and player control, and the devs have pulled it off brilliantly!

Planet Liberation
In Helldivers II, players can choose whatever planet they want to go on, and can fight either the Terminids or the Automatons. Typically in other games, missions like this are isolated experiences, and each player is playing in their own little bubble of experience. Not in this game, however. Planets have "liberation progress" percentage bar, and every time you complete an operation on the planet, you gain a minuscule amount of progress towards the liberation of that planet. If not enough people fight for a planet, it may be overrun, and the planet is lost. Some simple feature like this is enough to completely re-contextualise your motivation to fight for a planet. Knowing that you, along with tens of thousands of other players, are slowly working towards a collective goal, makes every mission you take feel like it has a greater weight of purpose to it, regardless of how small the percentage change is. I love games that do this! There's another game, "Foxhole" which is a massive persistent war where the entire war machine is run by players, from scrappers and miners collecting materials, to other players refining them, to others constructing weapons and supplies from them, to logistics workers transporting them to the frontline, to soldiers using them to fight! Games with the idea that you are such a small cog in a massive machine all run by players, with your small actions being part of a much larger narrative, is such an interesting concept to me, and this game appears to be taking that direction! The devs for Helldivers II are taking it a step further as well, seemingly there are "Game masters", developers who are able to direct the flow of the two enemy factions: make certain planets harder, have them flank around worlds, introduce major orders that will reward players for liberating a certain planet. Things like this mean that every time I log in to the game there could be some new development in the war, enticing me to hop right back into the fight!

In conclusion, would I recommend Helldivers II? Absolutely. You don't even need to be that great at shooter games, the mechanics are very simple to pick up, and as soon as you dive into that first mission, you'll be hooked. Very excited to see how this game will develop over time!

Reseña de acceso anticipado
This game has such little content to give in it's stage of Early Access, yet uses what it has provide such a unique, hilarious experience. You can't go 5 minutes without something happening that is equal parts terrifying and laughter inducing.

This game basically plays out like how ArmA III operations are intending to play out.

The level of customization is also brilliant, considering you can range from a ghillied up sniper, to a decked out black ops soldier, to even a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Fourth Echelon agent.

I'm shocked that I only just found out about this game not that long ago, and in perfect time for the release of the PvP mode. It's great fun!Kind of like Rainbow Six Siege with it's class systems.

Only real complaint is the price tag. I would only recommend buying this game if it's on sale. I got it for around £16. But on the other hand, really fun and engaging game!

Do you remember hyping up Battlefield 1, as THE World War One game?
Did you hope that it had large scale, trench warfare maps?
Did you want a large variety of roles, but with restrictions on the less common weapons (I.e machine guns)?
Did you want realistic settings and maps?
Did you want a real challenge and not some typical shooter crap?

...

Were you sad when Battlefield 1 delivered none of the above?

...

Well, let me tell you about a game called Verdun.

What has happened to steams rating system?why is this mixed on recent reviews but great on all time? Has something really bad happened recently or is it just there happens to be more negative,"trump sim lol" reviews lately?IDK

I've got to say, this is probably the only survival game I've ever played that I fully enjoyed, all the way through. Whilst all the other games in this genre turn into a bland mess with no scope or goal, this game challenges you further and further with new things to find and craft, and keeps your interest by providing beautiful, hand crafted enviroments that stretch far down into the dark depths of 4546-B.

My main pros:
+Game looks absolutely beautiful. From the serene, pastel blue colours of the water, to the fluorescent bioluminence of the many flora seen in each biome. This game shows that it's not about ultra realisitc graphics, but a sense of style and aesthetic that can make a games appearence truly stand out.
+Combat is not a viable option. In most survival games, most of the solutions to problems is "kill the bad thing". This game doesn't allow that. You are forced to avoid the diversely deadly wildlife as much as you can, with only a few tools capable of stunning them for a few seconds. This means that the enemies in Subnautica are real threats, and will remain that way for the whole game. Even with the best equipment you have, you will still soil your submarine at the roar of a Reaper Leviathan.
+The game feels, and is, complete. I finally have a survival game that I can play and enjoy the whole way through, have a complete, genuine ending, and feel content with playing it. No development hells and stagnant gameplay that ends when you get bored *cough* Dayz *cough*, this game actually has a scripted ending that you can work towards, and it will satisfy you at the end. It's one of those rare games that I complete and just gives me a warm smile when I see the credits roll.
+The sound design is simply masterful. From the distant, booming roars of creatures far beneath rock bottom, to the music so ambient you don't even notice it half the time, I think this game wouldn't be the same without sound. It terrifies you, intrigues you, and excites you simultaneously.

Cons:
-The story feels a bit weak. A lot of coincedental events push the story and the hints showing what happened to the planet are sometimes thrust into your face, and sometimes never told at all. I don't think NPC's should have been added to the game, but I think a few more alien locations to explore would help immerse the player more into the background of the planet and the Kharaa bacterium without having to check the wiki for real information
-The base building mechanic needs some work. At this point, it's like the game is suggesting that you build several, scattered outposts dotted over the map, but in reality the best way to play is to just have one large base right where you spawn, next to your lifepod. There is no real benefit that comes from moving your base somewhere else, as the Cyclops is perfectly capable of performing mining operations across the whole map, especially when you craft a Prawn suit to go along with it. Maybe the game can introduce base components that can INTERACT with the enviroment in some way, such as a mining tool that only works in specific biomes, or a material that can only be found by filtering water in extremely deep areas, etc.
-Whilst the thirst mechanic is A-OK in my books, I really dreaded the Hunger mechanic. Whilst water could be kept in large amounts in your inventory indefinitely, food had an expiration date, making it more difficult to prepare for long journeys. Water in the game progresses; You firstly get water by simply catching fish and processing them, then you get more uncommon materials and can make more healthy water that can fulfill more thirst, then you can craft machines capable of automatically filtering the water at your base for you. With food, you're doing the exact same thing both at the very end an the beginning:catching fish and cooking them. Maybe you can find land based plants, but they degrade too, making them useless. Perhaps the late game should have a method of creating nutrient blocks, or refrigerators can be added to preserve food (and might I add, samples) for later use. I dont care if the nutrient block needs really rare items, it's a sign of progress in the game.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Subnautica. It's finally a survival game you can truly sink your teeth into, and get immersed in. You can play this game for hours on end and still not get bored! I am definitely excited for the new DLC coming out soon, and am ambitious to be sucked back into this amazing planet. 9/10
