To say that this game may not be for everyone is a cliche understatement. Look, if you were the type of player that said original EQ leveling was easy, and complained when they changed the OoT ferry wait times from 30-ish minutes to 5 minutes max, this might be your game. It is not pretty, until you see it is. It is not rewarding, until suddenly it is. It is hard, do not make it easier. The camera is a bit of a pita. The old engine will make your modern super rig weep for no apparent reason. But everything you need, is in the game, you just need to read it/find it.

I cannot recommend this game enough. The devs have taken great pains to listen to the community and craft something that goes beyond the normal experience we have grown used to. We as gamers need to support them.

Lots of good ideas in the game, overall it is refreshing to see someone shake up the 4X genre. I see complaints about the cost, but 40 bucks is well under what others are charging for often a lot less. 40 is well worth venturing into Paradox's latest.

A few weeks ago, I would have happily recommended the game. Recent shenanigans chasing that almighty console dollar have led to a nearly unplayable buggy mess.

The dev is playing the "it's your mods" card. Problem with that line of defense is we have no mods aside from the official DLC. In the last play session we observed that the game had difficulty with such basic concepts as counting moves.

We'll see how that next series of hotfixes go, but we are all dead money and of very little interest.

Great game, some of the fewest bugs I have ever seen from Bethesda. Lots of choices, and the story seems very interesting. I do wish they would have made it so you can see the outside world from within the building/room cell you are in. You can tell there were supposed to be beautiful vistas that are ruined by opaque reflective "glass"

Oh well here's to the modder community and all the love they will pour into this game when they can.

A breath of fresh air, and unfortunately for other developers it IS a new metric to judge future releases by. Thoroughly enjoying the story and the game-play. I actually feel like I am being rewarded for coming at things like a D&D player instead of being forced into what must be done in this order in order to progress. 120 hours in and made it to Chapter 2. YMMV, I am a button pusher and lever puller, also not afraid to try out unknown potions.

Over 1000 hours in

There are not that many games that can keep my system loving, survival sandbox loving mind occupied. I got into this game years ago and praise Klang I am still at it.

What a fun look back on the past. I love switching between the re-master and original. Great throwback! Masterful re-make!

I've been an X player since I first saw glimpses of X:BTF in an old graphics card benchmarking program. X has been my "go to" space sim for many years. X:Rebirth was not for me, and I am thrilled that Egosoft has released X4. X3 was showing its age and glad to have a new game.

Some of the complexity of previous X releases is not there, management of your ships etc. But I like the addition of hiring and training crews. I have been using mods to sculpt the game to be more complex and therefore rewarding to me.

I would rec the game to previous X players, it may be too complex for those that only know the series from X:Rebirth. Look to mods to add complexity and flesh out the game. The devs are listening and working behind the scenes, I expect it will take a while to fully flesh out, but that is Egosoft. I am in general a fan and have faith they won't let us down.
