You type some stuff, some events take place, and no matter how hard you try you can't change the future. It's alright, but it feels like an exercise in futility.

What a neat game, that suffered the same fate as so many indie multiplayer titles before it. Great concept, great execution that had so much potential. Lost to time from a lack of players. Truly a shame.

Story time.
It was back sometime in 2012. That I had gone to a friends place. At the time our console of choice was the Nintendo 3Ds. Loaded on my friends device was a copy of ExciteBike. The reason for it's relevance and inclusion in my review is because he named one of his courses Squigly. Naturally this was just a misspelling of Squiggly. I however, was instantly captivated by the name. Overnight, gamertags, characters and usernames all became Squigly. Why does this matter? Well fast forward to the release of a new Skullgirls character, Squigly. My name had gone from being unattributed, to now having questions raised to me on why a chick from this game was my namesake. Sure enough I got tired of it. But the game had gotten my attention. And recently I finally decide to buy the game. What I was greeted with was an in-depth fighting game, that ends up being..... a fighting game. Meaning I will remain terrible at it. As I have never managed to get over the first skill wall of abandoning button mashing for actual combos. Nonetheless it feel very noob friendly, so if I was to ever try and get good this would be the game to do it in. And to top it off, Squigly is probably my favourite character in the game. So while she may of unfortunately stumbled on the same name, nearly all is forgiven. Amazing graphics, beautiful animations, neat characters. It's really something special.

An interesting game. Never have I felt so overwhelmed by a mob of enemies. This game feels brutally difficult, even on the easier difficulties. I'm not sure if it's because me and my group of friends are playing it completely wrong. Which is probably the case. The shooting itself will typically devolve into being completely mindless after a few minutes. Especially when you have a teammate with a flamethrower, you will literally see nothing but flames. The game also feels like it lacks polish. The graphics are serviceable. However, so many of the areas feel like assets that were copy and pasted all over to make an area. Leaving it with the feeling of a map made in a sandbox game. In fact the overall feel I had playing it made me think this game was released in 2008, much less 2016. The gun play feels like it takes a back seat for the strategy required to get through levels. Which is fine, but if I want strategy I have other games to fill that craving. Nonetheless it is a fun game to chill to with friends so I can't be too harsh on it.

I was so hyped for this game, truly. Being a huge fan of Halo the premise of this game instantly caught my eye. However when I finally managed to jump in there was a flaw. The gimmick of this game is its inclusion of a portal gun. Allowing for interesting combat and creates itself a rather large skill ceiling. The issues begin when we start to look at the maps. Portals can only be placed on specialised portal walls. Which in itself is not an issue, Portal 1 and 2 did this as well. The problem is in their placement. The areas they are found are at best awkward and at worst completely redundant. Leading to a creatively devoid use of the mechanic. There are other issues but this is the main thing holding the game back I'd say. I should also mention that the game feels a bit deserted. I wish it all the best, but it has not managed to hold my attention. Give it a go if you are interested, would be interesting to see where this game ends up. At the moment though it just isn't for me.

What a shame, such a fantastic game. Ludicrously fast, adrenaline filled aerial combat. That has now lost any semblance of a playerbase. It was fun while it lasted. A game that will only live on in my memories.

Honestly, don't know how I truly feel about this game. While it does a lot of things right, it has what I see as a single fatal flaw. And that is there is not much incentive or enjoyment in getting to max level. While yes, to make your character ultimately powerful, you need to hit that level. The problem lies in the fact it really doesn’t feel like it matters. At around level 50 you have already become a demigod, and traveling higher requires quite a bit of grinding and re-farming of equipment you already have so that you are still capable of dealing damage. Which just leads to farming circles where once you have farmed for a good roll of one gun, one piece of equipment on your class will be so underpowered you have to go out and farm it again. Then this cycle continues until you have lost your mind. The story is decent, the comedy is sure to make you chuckle periodically, the characters are great and the world is cool. However, it ends up not mattering when you kill the same dude for the 500th time trying to get a decent piece of loot. It is a good game, but you need to be a special kind of person if you want to take it to its limits.

What can I say but wow. There is a small story as to why this game ended up on my account. You see, I would tend to help friends in various games to help them level, earn rewards, etc. They naturally asked if I wanted any compensation for my efforts. And I would always jokingly respond that the best form of payment is in Nekopara. This “joke” turned into what is now my complete devotion to the characters, world and 18+ patch when one of my friends actually went ahead and got one of the games for me. Now it is easy to explain why I love this series, and yes, a Lenny face is very fitting. This Visual Novel, which make no mistake, is all it is. Puts you in the shoes of a pastry, sweet and cake maker, etc. Who has recently moved out of home to set up a café business. However, upon unpacking his possession finds that two of the boxes contain two of his cat girls, who managed to stow themselves away so they could stay with him. What follows is a cute story of him coming to terms with them wanting to stick with him and the cat girls development as employees of the business…… and other “developments” if you catch my drift. Yes, these cats are not left untouched for very long, and it very quickly sheds it’s somewhat innocent image in exchange for what is the purest, sweetest vanilla fun times that you could ask to come across. Sure, the story has zero interaction, sure the animations aren’t crazy, sure some scenes stagnate when you are reading miles of text. But it just doesn’t matter. Because this is Nekopara. This is the epitome of cat girls. I will come back for the story once and for the real “plot” a hundred times more. I wear my Nekopara badges, wallpapers and achievements with pride. This review will forever be left here, as a sign of pride. Godspeed Neko Works, Godspeed.
