One of a kind game with a long history of active development, so you get the pile of content now and clear view of active future development. Game itself is a legendary classic of the genre, if you're familiar with the sandbox rougelike then you'll know if you're going to love C:DDA.

From an old modder of the game, absolute cheers to Korg for the release, it's awesome seeing them throwing themselves so fully behind CDDA and the price tag attached to support them is in good hands for ensuring it helps the game develop.

The gameplay look nice, but after paying $50 and waiting little over a month the game still crashes to desktop and sometimes crashes my entire display driver every time a space battle is viewed.

My entire playtime of 6 hours has been attempt after attempt of crashing, retrieving crash logs, and sending them to the developers. To their credit, they have been responsive in their attempts to fix my and many other's issue with space battles, however they seem to been completely unable to solve this issue despite this.

I shouldn't have to check in every week, put an hour or two into gathering files and formatting forums posts just to play a game I paid for. The fact that this game is not classified as an early access release is a poor testing run by the devs at best, and incredibly misleading advertising at worst.

TL;DR
I paid $50 to experience a work day being a QA for an alpha product that *barely* functions.

As with a lot of people in the game, I've played a lot of Wurm active and inactive for years now. I return to Wurm Online as opposed to the standalone Wurm Unlimited for this steam release.

As a game Wurm is unique, no other MMO offers the level of sandbox creation that Wurm does. It for a long time has successfully delivered the player built universe that games such as Star Citizen have been striving for.

The game itself is unbelievably grindy, with one of the most brutal and repetitive skill systems you will ever find in a game. Hours upon dozens of hours spent to specialize into a single skill is the expected norm. The game takes an inordinate level of patience to achieve the grand tasks you may envision, such as building as castle or sailing your own large merchant vessel. The sense of satisfaction upon success however is just as grand as the investment.

As with all games however, there's bad. Of course there's the bad in game mechanics and design which I just went over, but that's a subjective bad or perhaps even part of Wurm's charm. An objective bad with the game is with sects of the community, the reason I left for Unlimited in the first place.
Elitism runs rampant with some of the older players, a sense that 'Only the cream of the crop could ever play this game' is not uncommon to come across. There's a surprisingly notable number of players who conduct themselves as if they are above the 'unproven new masses' and view newer players as inconvenience.
To say all are like that would be false, the Wurm community can also be some of the most caring and welcoming bunch you'll meet. Some of them understand that the game really can't keep running forever if no one new joins.

The public-facing side of the dev team is another sticking point. I've been gone from Online so long I'm no longer familiar with most of the names, but I'd encourage you to read Translogans' negative review. While almost certainly bias as he was a party in the conduct, there's pretty blatant proof of unprofessional and worrying behaviour among some of the team regardless of the actual intent anyone had.

If you're still interested after reading through that, then I'd absolutely implore you. Give Wurm a shot. It launched with a fresh land, so many new people the servers had issues the first day, and a beautiful amount of communication between the development team and the players. I give this a positive review, because I really think that Wurm has a chance here to turn over a great new leaf with the help of this new community. One that I hope whoever is reading this will be a part of.

Let me start it off by saying this game is real. Absolutely, beautifully, disgustingly real. It gives you things straight. It gives you a life experience that makes you feel as if you went through it yourself.

And this is extremely sad.
An extremely sad, but accepted tale.

11/10 Would not play again.
It's perfect as it is now in my memory.

Great game, fun to just mess around with, or get serious about if you wish. I would recomend it to anyone who likes sanbox games, or designing, or is pretty serious when it comes to trying to perfect every aspect of their gaming experince.
