Bought this on a recommendation from a friend and we still keep playing it every once in a while. It's great with a few people but can get a bit messy when not everyone is on the same page - although that's just an added challenge.

GMR has really revived CiV for me and my friends. I've had at least one game going on at all times for nearly a year now.

Dark Souls II is really, really good. Hardcore fans of the series will usually say it is the worst Souls game to date and that might be true in some areas, it still is REALLY good and rankings are opinions.
True, it does not have the same quality of level design and some mechanics (soul memory) are bad in some respects, It does a lot of things even better that the first Dark Souls. First of all, the port is much better. The game runs at 60fps without mods. Second, the combat feels a lot more fluid (this is probably subjective) and third, it is so much easier to approach for someone new to the series.
The DLC are also excellent and their level design is comparable to the first game.

My favourite RPG of all time.
If you're new to the series, you might want to try Dark souls 2 first as the series is a bit different in termas of progression and such from most action RPGs and the second game is slightly less so.
You may also have heard that Dark Souls is DIFFICULT. I do realize that I might be a bit biased as I have played it through so many times but I'd say that when you get properly used to the mechanics and such, everything gets a lot easier. What it does is that it punishes you for mistakes more that most games. It feels REALLY good when you finally beat that one boss after so many tries though.
