While I was originally hesitant to purchase this game due to being jaded by games like Baldur's Gate needing excessive care during each battle to ensure survivability, the explorer mode in this game enabled a friend and I to start playing this game with little need to micromanage each skill or stat setting and allowed me to focus on enjoying the content of the story.

The choices available throughout the game (in so far as I have played), have shown rich character development and have given the appearance of a freedom of play throughout very similar to playing a D&D campaign with a forgiving DM.
