With the amount of games these days that are trying to jump on the "I wanna be the guy" bandwagon, 1001 Spikes may seem like a gimmick, but its well-polished retro charm is what makes it stand out from the rest. Though it was often frustrating, I had a lot of fun with 1001 Spikes. The difficulty level was pretty high, but the amount of lives the game gives you makes it seem like you're far from failure. I managed to beat the game with a net loss of only about 200 lives (the game stars you with 1001), although I'm pretty experienced with platformers, so results may very. However, no matter your skill level, this game constantly reinforces you to presevere by giving you lives at the end of each world, and allowing you to buy more lives in the shop with the in-game currency. Satisfying music and SFX, neat graphics, tons of content and good gameplay definitely make this game worth your money.
