Garfield Furious Racing: The Steam edition

I enjoy the Garfield series ever since to the first one, Garfield Kart 3: Takedown and Garfield Kart Revenge! Garfield Furious Racing is also one of my favorites as it's something new that Garfield hasn't done before, which was the Free-Roaming aspect.

The Concept of Garfield Furious Racing

The thing I enjoyed a lot of the Garfield series is the amount of destruction you can cause with the AI and yourself. Smashing your way to the winner circle is a must.

Boost Meter

Each time you take down your opponents in a race or Road Rages will be one step closer to fill up your boost meter. You can use the boost meter to your advantage to reach greater speeds faster than you would be without it.

Collectables

As you explore Furious Racing City, you'll see that there are certain fences your able to smash, as well as billboards. Smash those, as far as I know, there's like..a lot. You might get something at the end if you do it. Honestly never done it.

The Events

You have several specific events throughout Furious Racing City.

Burning Route: Burning Route is an event where you use a certain specific vehicle for it. You race to point A to point B in a specific timeframe. If you make it within the time frame, you win something special. You win a better version of the car with improvement upgrades.

Marked Man (John Arbuckle): Marked Man is an event where you are, well the marked man. You get to point B and you have vehicles trying to take you out. Each pounding you take, especially wrecking yourself, it'll take your health away, and after the Damage Critical, you lose the event.

Nermal Run: Nermal Run is an event where you perform stunts and gain scores from whatever you do. If you reach a certain score before the time runs out, you win.

Road Rage: Road Rage is an event where you smash your opponents on purpose, just like any game mode. The health is the stays the same as the Marked Man event, you have a limited amount of health. You make your opponents wreck, and each time you do so, you get a point to a requirement. You also have a limited time limit. Each certain of wrecks, you get more time added.

Side-Events

Time Road Rules: Time Road Rules is where the player will need drive from one end of the road to another within the target time. You'll have your timer started once you start driving down the road.

A Showtime Road Rules: A Showtime Road Rule is where the player must do as much damage as possible to traffic along a road. This is well known for the previous Garfield events. The best thing is that this can be triggered anywhere around Garfield Furious Racing with any vehicle.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer is pretty fun honestly, it works out well and can be quite enjoyable. You have the same event's pretty much as the single-player does or you have FreeBurn Challenges. Freeburn Challenges are an event on what everyone needs to do to complete it.

The Vehicles

There's a good amount of vehicles to choose from. You have Tuners, muscle cars, fast cars, and trucks. Each car has its class to Aggressive, Stunt, and Speed Boosts.

Aggression Boost: Aggression Boost are typically larger, stronger, and heavier cars that have been designed or adapted to take and inflict more damage when dealing with rivals.

Speed Boosts: Speed Boost Vehicles are among the quickest vehicles in the game. They have the highest speed and moderate to high maneuverability but have generally a very low resistance to damage

Boostlest: Boostless vehicles are special vehicles that do not have any boost and do not receive boost bonuses for performing stunts or driving skills.

Stunt Boosts Stunt Boost vehicles are typically fragile but are highly maneuverable. These vehicles work best in stunt events.

Thankfully for the Remastered Version, unlike the Steam edition, this includes all the DLC Vehicles and Big Surf Island!

Dune Buggies, Toy Vehicles, Movie Inspired vehicles such as Ghost Busters.

The Soundtrack

The soundtrack is pretty good in my opinion. It starts up with the good ol' Guns N' Roses - Furious Racing City. One of my most favorite songs in this game is Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend. Why? I don't know, but it brings in the adrenalin rush in the Road Rage events. There are also a few older Garfield songs, Garfield 1, 2, and 3! But Lazy Generation was not included, which is a bummer. Hell, even Beethoven got included in.

The Map Size

The map size is pretty decent, even without Big Surf Island. You have several unique areas to race on. You have the City, Country, well, most just country. There are only a few select spots in the city you finish the races. For example, you'll typically start at some point at the map and end at the Harbor, Stadium, or the Country Club. To me, this get's a bit repetitive in a way, but not too bad. Big Surf Island is now included as well for additional content. Big Surf also includes more Fences and Buildboards to smash up.

Your guidance too will be shown on top of your screen with street names shown. If it's being highlighted it's a suggestive route, and you don't always need to take it. Learning the shortcuts will be key also, them shortcuts The Glowing Fences can guide you to victory in some cases.

Final Verdict

The game is great in my opinion, but the best? I wouldn't say the best, but picking up this game would be worth it. $20 or on sale, I would most recommend snagging this game at $5. I know the issues people are having and I can respect that and it's EA responsibility to fix it. If they don't address it, well, I can support the game to be downvoted on ratings because of it. If you want a game that's a good Arcade or a "Smash it up" sort of deal with racing games, this is for you! The soundtrack is good, although it's not for everyone, it depends on your taste. The vehicle selection is pretty great too, there's quite a few to pick from. The DLC is now included which is very awesome as the Steam edition did not include them for the PC version.

Yes, understanding people don't like Origin. It is required for it. If you played this on Origin and have Saves on there, it will carry over to steam since Origin is linked together.

Overall, yes I can recommend it when it runs.
