I gotta say this just isn't my type of game. I gave it a shot but I found it quite boring.

Its essentially a walking simulator (and I do mean walking. I swear holding shift makes you go the same speed) where you follow a linear path and look at items. The story is told by flashbacks and reading papers you find. I did find the flashbacks annoying as they were very frequent and filled your screen with blinding white light. It also didn't help they were totally random and sometimes would occur for doing something that had nothing to do with the flashback like open a suitcase.

It is cool how there are a lot of things in German to fit the atmosphere but without subtitles telling me what they say its almost useless to pick up anything not in English. Also I don't know why they let you pick up some items. It was a nice cup but me picking it up had no effect other then a closer look.

Maybe it gets better later but from what I read from other reviews this is about all the game has to offer. If they had sprinkled in some challenging puzzles or something it may be more enjoyable but you literally just walk where they want you to go and interact with the highlighted items.

Wow it was very easy to see why there are no "killers" in this game and the survivor que times are long.

See games like Dead by daylight are 1v4 with you hunting the survivors. This game on the other hand decided to go a different direction. This game is 4v1. The killers have the upper hand for about 30 seconds while they craft weapons. After that it is a game of you being chased around the map waiting for you cooldowns to come back up so you can make an attempt at hitting one of them. Then its back to running and hiding from the survivors.

Also good luck if they band together with weapons. You will be able to hit one that will immediately be followed up by them hitting you as they follow you as you chase.

When i read the horror tag i was like cool scary monsters. Unfortunately I was wrong this game makes the pastel colored teenagers the scary ones.

Well i gave it a shot. Unless they do some drastic re balancing I don't see this game lasting long.

I don't understand how a game can come out in 2021 that uses the same tech as games from 2000. This same is loaded with all the issues you would expect from a RTS that came out back then. This review is for the campaign as I've already beat all but the Japanese one.

Unit movement is horrible. If you set a group to patrol they will but if they get into a fight the ranged units will attack the the first thing they run into then stand there and stop moving. However the melee units will go back to patrolling and charge on ahead which can split your troops. The reason i use the patrol command? Because there isn't a good attack command that wont have your melee troops rush the enemy then stand there and stop moving even when set to aggressive stance and there is an enemy a few steps away.

Then there is the Genghis Khan faction....... A faction that doesn't make castles in a castle building game. A faction that relies on horse troops when they can't go on walls to attack enemy troops or take over warlords as they can't get in his building. Yes they can make the weaker ground troops but they get cut down easily while the horses are useless when attacking a castle. Looks like in multiplayer all factions have access to all the units including the 5 or so unique ones (Maybe not so unique units as they all get them)

Now you would think since there are only a couple factions that they would be have some flavor of the culture to them. NOPE. You have Genghis Khan using Imperial horse units and building Chinese styled building just like every faction in the game. You really can't tell them apart. I have only played the campaign so far so I don't know about multi player but unless you see a unique unit (which there are only a couple) you can't tell the factions apart.

They have added a warlord system to this game to Spice it up! It doesn't. First you cant build defenses around them so you have to just have armies standing around the leader (read capture point) and put some archers in his little tower to give them some range. They don't make new units to defend themselves and they don't really do much besides act as a store to spend your influence points. Honestly they are all pretty horrible but the Tiger which is very powerful for some reason. He will send an army of about 30 mid to elite units for the low low price of 200 influence. This is compared to the horse warlord which will send 3 elite horses for 300 influence....... what. Where did they decide this pricing and the horses don't do anything because there is 3 of them!

This is my first Stronghold game and I was very excited about the castle building aspect. It did not live up to expectations. I should have stuck with the total war series for that. The best tactic is to just rush the walls with archers as the walls provide poor cover and some extra range to the defenders. Its very easy to clean an entire wall with an archer rush and then let your melee characters dig though it. They are just a little slower then a catapult. Its almost not worth bringing siege equipment as they are slow, die easy, and don't do much damage to the walls (with the exception of the gunpowder one shot unit).

The presentation is very dated as is the graphics. This game is on par with a 2000 game with its lifeless level design and bad graphics. Then enemy don't react they send growing waves at you and then have static units in their base that will stand where they are and fight. They wont gather up and try to stop you they just stand there till you get close and attack. Cut scenes remind me of the fist age of empires game in quality and when your warlord addresses you (I thought I was him?) then he will do a preset animation that is the same every time he talks to you and the animation doesn't have anything to do with what hes saying. They couldn't even have them lip sync. Also no tool tips on the enemy units and crappy ones on your own units. Want to see the stats of the enemy units too bad. Want to see the walls hp NOPE.

Overall this looks like a cash grab. The company used the code and mechanics of a much older game and slapped some lipstick on it. This game is beyond dated and it just came out and I don't see a way for them to fix it as the issues are not just with the game itself but in the programming of the game too. I would do a hard pass if i were you.
